"Succession" Leads the Pack of Emmy Nominees

The nominations are in for the 2022 Emmy’s.  HBO's popular drama series "Succession" is up for 25 awards at this year's Emmys, including Outstanding Drama Series. Additionally, 14 actors and actresses appearing on the show last season earned nominations across five acting categories, setting a new record for the most acting nominations for a drama series in a single year.

In the comedy and limited series fields, Apple TV+ hit "Ted Lasso" and HBO's "The White Lotus" dominated with 20 nominations each.

Netflix's uber-violent South Korean drama "Squid Game" also made history, becoming the first foreign-language program nominated for Outstanding Drama Series. The show also earned acting nominations for four of its stars and a total of 14 nominations.

Also making history this year is "Euphoria" star Zendaya. Just 25 years old, she is now the youngest person ever nominated as a producer. Her hit HBO series earned 16 nominations and will compete against a crowded field in the Outstanding Drama Series category.

Additional double-digit nominees for Outstanding Drama Series are Apple TV+ newcomer "Severance," with 14 nods, and Netflix's "Ozark" and "Stranger Things" with 13 each. Rounding out the nominees are AMC's final season of "Better Call Saul" and Showtime's first season of "Yellowjackets" with seven nods each.

The race for Outstanding Comedy is equally stacked, as joining "Ted Lasso" are four other series earning double-digit nominations: HBO's "Hacks" with 17, Hulu's "Only Murders in the Building" with 17, HBO's "Barry" with 14, and Amazon Prime's "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel" with 12. Also competing are two very different mockumentary series: FX's "What We Do in the Shadows" and ABC's "Abbott Elementary," with seven nominations each. The final contender is HBO's long-running comedy series "Curb Your Enthusiasm,” which earned four nods.

Speaking of comedies, "Saturday Night Live" continues to make history, as the long-running variety show's nine nominations extend its record as the most Emmy-nominated series in history, with 315 nods over the course of its 47-season run.

Competing with "The White Lotus" for Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series is Netflix's "Inventing Anna," which garnered three nods, and several series from Hulu: "Dopesick" with 14 nominations, "Pam & Tommy" with 10, and "The Dropout" with six.

Several performers earned acting nominations in more than one category for multiple projects: Jerrod Carmichael ("Rothaniel" and "Saturday Night Live"), Julia Garner ("Ozark" and "Inventing Anna"), Bill Hader ("Barry" and "Curb Your Enthusiasm"), Rhea Seehorn ("Better Call Saul" and "Cooper's Bar"), Sydney Sweeney ("Euphoria" and "The White Lotus"), and Harriet Walter ("Succession" and "Ted Lasso").

Broadway Stages is also excited to see that HBO's "The Gilded Age," segments of which are filmed at our studios, was recognized with a nomination for its stunning production design.
