What’s Happening at Kingsland Wildflowers Green Rooftop

Summer is aglow with colors at our iconic garden rooftop, Kingsland Wildflowers, where the sights and sounds of summer are at their peak!  Not only is it pollinator week that runs from June 20 - 26 (learn about the Leaf Cutter Bee, a frequent visitor on our green roof), but also, we invite you to join us (weather permitting) on Friday, June 24, for Friday Evening Open Hours. From 5-8 pm, you can learn about green roofs, collect wildflower seeds, and enjoy the spectacular moments before sunset from our beautiful rooftop. Staff from Newtown Creek Alliance (NCA) – our environmental education program stewards – will be on hand to answer questions about the garden rooftop, green infrastructure, habitat restoration, and much more.

Friday Evening Open Hours are free and open to the public but please register in advance, as space is limited. Registrants will be notified of any cancellations on the day of the event.

If you can’t make it on June 24, check the Kingsland Wildflowers website for future Friday Evening Open Hours and other events.  And follow our social media for information about rooftop performances like the one happening on Saturday, June 25 when NOoSPHERE Arts hosts the second WE ARE NATURE (WAN) summer performance series Solstice Celebration.  Sign up now to enjoy a solstice dance performance, live music, and an art installation on the rooftop gardens of Kingsland Wildflowers. See for yourself how the arts complement the wildflowers, birds, and pollinators that call Kingsland Wildflowers home.

Also, be sure to mark your calendar for our 6th annual Kingsland Wildflowers Festival that will be held on Saturday, July 23. It’s going to be a day full of family-friendly activities, including information about local environmental initiatives, food, beverages, performances, and art to enjoy amidst a wildflower meadow dedicated to native plants and birds.  More details to follow!

Enjoy the summer and we hope to see you on our rooftop!
