New York City Wildflowers in the News
/The New York Times recently ran a piece about the many wildflowers that can be found in New York City. In the article, Sabrina Imbler describes a number of these tenacious and beautiful plants, providing the history of some that are not native to the area. In addition to featuring Williamsburg’s Marsha P. Johnson State Park, Imbler mentions Andrew Garn’s new photo book “Wildflowers of New York City,” which just happens to feature Kingsland Wildflowers at Broadway Stages (see page 15), a Greenpoint community project committed to expanding natural habitat and green corridors native to the New York City landscape. The vision, conceived through partnerships between local businesses, community voices, and wildlife experts, provides Greenpoint with living and growing infrastructure to support native New York City wildlife and educational programming focused on sustainable conservation practices and wildlife protection. Kingsland Wildflowers is a key part of Broadway Stages’ commitment to environmental sustainability that not only cultivates wildflowers to help our local insects and birds, but also improves air quality, manages stormwater runoff, and provides opportunities to educate the community about how to make a positive impact on the environment.
