"New Amsterdam" Season 3 Premiere | The New Normal

When the popular medical drama “New Amsterdam” returns to NBC for its third season tomorrow at 10 p.m. ET, things will be very different for Dr. Max Goodwin (Ryan Eggold) and his team. The new season will start with an episode appropriately titled “The New Normal,” and it will deal with the staff of New Amsterdam Medical Center fighting the massively disruptive COVID-19 pandemic.

Inspired by Dr. Eric Manheimer’s memoir “Twelve Patients: Life and Death at Bellevue Hospital,” the show follows the medical director of one of the country’s oldest public hospitals as he seeks to improve patient care by cutting through the red tape in his way. We are thrilled that “New Amsterdam” has been filmed at our Brooklyn-based facilities for all of its three seasons. It’s been an honor to be the studio production partner for this amazing medical drama series.

When we last saw the team in the final episode of season two last April, we were introduced to new doctor Cassian Shin (Daniel Dae Kim), who caught the eye of Dr. Helen Sharpe. Additionally, Max broke things off with Alice, setting up the potential for a love triangle between the three doctors in the new season. Additionally, Dr. Bloom put her sobriety at risk by taking a small taste of the hospital’s morphine after patients receiving morphine were crashing.

In the season premiere, on top of dealing with an overwhelming number of patients due to the pandemic, the team also must respond when a plane crashes into the East River. How will the aging medical facility handle such a large influx of patients? And how will the stress of the pandemic affect these frontline workers’ private and professional lives? Will Dr. Bloom suffer a relapse? Be sure to tune in to find out.
