Au Revoir to Anna Amato | Legendary Principal and Educator at PS110
/Earlier this month we had the great pleasure of celebrating the legendary career of PS 110 Principal, Anna Cano Amato, who served in this capacity at the Monitor School for almost 15 years. While her career as an educator spanned more than 30 years, the positive impact of her leadership and dedication to the mutually successful educational journey of her students, staff and parents has made a long-lasting impression on our community that will be felt for years.
A Canh Fellow and Alumni Adviser at the Teachers College of Columbia University’s Graduate School of Education, Health and Psychology, Anna has always gone the extra mile to bring the best to her students and staff. Always seeking the best for her students, she sought information and training in the best educational methods, including the value of bilingual programs. In 2016, Anna was a recipient of the Chevalier dans I’Ordre des Palmes Académiques for her “... remarkable role in the development of French-English bilingual programs. This award was founded in 1808 by Napoleon Bonaparte to recognize devotion and accomplishment in the areas of teaching, scholarship and research. Her vision contributed to the success of bilingual education in New York City public schools, and she helped to offer hundreds of children the opportunity to learn in two languages.
Anna also understood the importance of having the input and support from parents, neighbors and community organizations to attain the goals she laid out for PS 110. “The educational journey of our students cannot be accomplished without the assistance of many others outside the school. It is vital that we collaborate with parents, neighbors, and community organizations in order to provide our children with the knowledge, guidance and support necessary for them to grow into caring and responsible citizens of our community,” said Anna.
Broadway Stages is honored to have worked with Anna and her team at PS 110, and is committed to continue the tradition of supporting STEAM education at the Monitor School. As she looks to begin a new chapter in her life, we wish Anna all the best that life can offer, and we thank her for her role in educating our children; for creating a better educational environment for our students, for providing quality education that will propel our students to achieve their ambitions and hone the skills needed to be the leaders of tomorrow. Thank you Anna for all that you have done for our community. You will be missed.
