Production Spotlight | Austin Butler in Darren Aronofsky's "Caught Stealing"
/Austin Butler has shown no sign of slowing down since his breakout performance in 2022's "Elvis." Over the past year, he starred in the Apple TV+ miniseries "Masters of the Air" and the feature films "The Bikeriders" and "Dune: Part Two."
Last year the Oscar-nominated actor filmed the western "Eddington" in New Mexico, and he was recently in New York City working on his next project — Darren Aronofsky's adaptation of Charlie Huston's 2004 novel "Caught Stealing." The action thriller was shot in 51 days utilizing five of the stages in our Brooklyn facility.
Butler will star as Hank Thompson, a washed-out former baseball player inadvertently caught up with the mafia in New York City in the 1990s. The film has a large ensemble cast, including Oscar winner Regina King, Zoë Kravitz, Matt Smith, Liev Schreiber, Vincent D'Onofrio, Carol Kane, Will Brill, Griffin Dunne, D'Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai, George Abud, and rappers Bad Bunny and Action Bronson. See IMDb for more information and photos taken during filming.
While not much more is known about the production itself, the book is available for purchase in various formats. Its official description suggests an action-packed and suspenseful film in the making as Hank finds himself "running over rooftops… playing hide and seek with the NYPD, riding the subway with a dead man at his side, and counting a whole lot of cash on a concrete floor."
"Caught Stealing" is actually the first in Huston's "Henry Thompson" trilogy, followed by "Six Bad Things" and "A Dangerous Man." Huston is adapting the screenplay himself. He previously wrote three episodes of Fox's hit series "Gotham" and served as a producer for its fourth and fifth seasons.
Aronofsky is known for his work on dark, disturbing, and often surreal films, including "Pi" (1998), "Requiem for a Dream" (2000), "Black Swan" (2010), "Mother!" (2017), and most recently "The Whale" (2022).
According to IMDB, Butler has five more films currently in pre-production, including a much-hyped adaptation of Bret Easton Ellis's "American Psycho" directed by Luca Guadagnino, known for directing "Call Me By Your Name" (2017) and "Challengers" (2024).
