Celebrate Pride in NYC Parks

As New Yorkers, we are fortunate to have many parks across the city where we can relax, enjoy nature, experience art, and learn about history. But did you know that NYC Parks offers visitors numerous opportunities to connect with LGBTQIA+ related history, locations, and events?

In honor of Pride Month, Broadway Stages encourages our readers to check out NYC Parks’ Pride at NYC Parks webpage. There, you will not only learn about the history of the LGBTQIA+ movement and community, but you will also be able to plan your visits to the many notable locations that commemorate influential people and events. Visit the webpage to read about photographer Alice Austen; poet Audre Lorde; activist, performer, and philanthropist Mabel Hampton; artist Keith Haring; community activist Arthur Strickler; civil rights leader Bayard Rustin; and others. And read about the Stonewall Riots, NYC's First Pride March, and the First NYC Dyke March; as well as about parks and historic sites; the AIDS Memorial; and works of art including monuments, sculptures, and murals.

Also check out upcoming NYC Parks LGBTQ+ Pride Month events, including the Audre Lorde Walk at Silver Lake Park on Staten Island (June 17; free); Whitman in Love -- Live Oak, with Moss & Other Poems at Merchant’s House Museum in Manhattan (June 21-24; cost $75); and more. See the events links for more information.

Get out this month and throughout the year to enjoy our NYC Parks!
