/Over the last year, many actors and filmmakers of Asian descent celebrated artistic achievements on the big screen (and on the red carpet). In honor of Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, read about a few of these movie stars and find out where you can see them next.
The cast of "Everything Everywhere All at Once" had a huge year, as their film won major award after major award, and also performed very well at the box office. So what's next for your favorite stars of the film?
Recent Oscar winner Michelle Yeoh is very much in-demand, with 11 projects in production and scheduled to be released over the coming five years. She will next be heard voicing Airazor in "Transformers: Rise of the Beasts," scheduled for release on June 9. On September 15, you can see her co-starring in the latest Hercule Poirot film, "A Haunting in Venice." She will also star in the upcoming Netflix series "The Brothers Sun," currently in post-production. Next year, the extremely busy actress will appear in the highly anticipated film adaptation of "Wicked" and will also be in the forthcoming "Avatar" sequels.
Yeoh's co-star Ke Huy Quan has also been busy since his Oscar-winning performance. He will be joining the Marvel universe later this year when he co-stars in the second season of "Loki" on Disney+. He will reportedly play an archivist at the Time Variance Authority, the powerful organization that monitors the various timelines of the multiverse. He also has a film in the works called "The Electric State," directed by brothers Anthony and Joe Russo ("Avengers: End Game" and "Avengers: Infinity War") and featuring a star-studded cast including Brian Cox, Stanley Tucci, Chris Pratt, Giancarlo Esposito, and Millie Bobby Brown.
Additionally, Yeoh and Quan will be starring in the upcoming Disney+ action comedy series "American Born Chinese," scheduled to drop on May 24. The series is based on the 2006 graphic novel of the same name by Gene Luen Yang. Their "Everything" co-stars Stephanie Hsu and James Hong will appear in recurring roles.
Speaking of Stephanie Hsu, she can currently be seen in the fifth and final season of Prime Video's "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel." She joined the cast in the recurring role of Mei Lin in season three, and makes a guest appearance in the first episode of the new season. Hsu also has a film coming out on July 7 called "Joy Ride," a comedy about four Asian-American friends who travel through Asia in search of one of their birth mothers. She can also be heard in two upcoming animated films – "The Monkey King" will air on Netflix later this year, and "Leo" is expected to be released in the fall. Hsu has yet another film scheduled to be released in 2024 called "The Fall Guy," starring Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt.
James Hong has hundreds of film and television credits to his name dating back to the 1950s. The 94-year-old actor is not showing any signs of slowing down, as he has several productions in the works. He will soon appear in the short film "Rock Inn," currently in post-production, and will also star in the upcoming feature film "Patsy Lee & the Keepers of the 5 Kingdoms." He plays a grandfather who, along with his granddaughter, is transported to a mystical land through a portal stone. He can also be heard playing Grandpa Wing in the upcoming animated series "Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai," a prequel to the 1984 film of the same name. The show premieres on Max (formerly HBO Max) on May 23.
We can't wait to see these upcoming productions! In our next part of this series, we will take a look at what the stars of "RRR," "Turning Red," and other recent films are up to next.
