Inside Broadway Stages | What's Filming
/The amazing productions being filmed at our soundstages play a lead role in elevating New York's film and television industry and our local economy. Here is an update on a few of the shows that call Broadway Stages home.
"East New York" Coming to CBS on October 2
"East New York," filmed at our facilities in Brooklyn, will premiere Sunday, October 2, as part of CBS's new fall lineup. Amanda Warren ("The Leftovers") will star as Regina Haywood, the recently promoted commanding officer of New York's 74th Precinct. She leads a diverse group of officers and detectives in serving and protecting a poverty-stricken Brooklyn neighborhood that is experiencing social upheaval as it enters the early stages of gentrification.
Emmy winner Jimmy Smits ("NYPD Blue" and "L.A. Law") will co-star as Chief John Suarez. Joining Smits and Warren is Ruben Santiago-Hudson ("Castle") as officer Marvin Sandeford and Richard Kind ("Mad About You") as Captain Stan Yenko. Olivia Luccardi ("The Deuce") will play patrol officer Brandy Quinlan, and newcomer Lavel Schley will co-star as trainee Andre Bentley. Additional cast members include Elizabeth Rodriguez ("Shameless") and Kevin Rankin ("The Umbrella Academy") as detectives. Also joining the series in recurring roles are Caitlin Mehner ("Dopesick"), Darien Sills-Evans ("Third Watch"), and C.S. Lee ("Dexter").
The pilot episode was filmed at our studios, and we were thrilled when it was picked up as a full series. We cannot wait to see the premiere on October 2!
Christine Baranski Discusses the Last Season of "The Good Fight" on Late Night TV
Earlier this month, Christine Baranski, Diane Lockhart on "The Good Fight" and Agnes Van Rhijn on "The Gilded Age" (both filmed at our stages), spoke to Seth Meyers about her work on both shows.
In the first part of the interview, the busy actress told Meyers that over the summer she filmed "The Good Fight" for Paramount+ through July, took one day off, then went straight into filming HBO's "The Gilded Age." She also shared fun stories about her grandchildren and discussed similarities between her two characters, Diane and Agnes. Although they live more than 100 years apart in American history, "Both of them [are] in despair about the state of the world," she exclaimed.
In the second part of the interview, she discussed the final season of "The Good Fight" (airing now on Paramount+) and how much she will miss the cast and crew. She spent 13 years portraying the character on "The Good Fight" and its predecessor, "The Good Wife," which was also filmed at our stages from 2009 through 2016.
She also praised the talented New York-based actors who appeared on the show. As previously reported, Phylicia Rashad, André Braugher, and John Slattery co-star in the final season.
"I will miss every aspect of it," she said about the show ending. We can second that sentiment! It’s been a privilege to provide a home for the cast and crew for the combined 13 seasons of the franchise.
If you missed the first five seasons, Paramount+ recently released a short featurette to help you get up to speed for the final season.
Get Ready for New Episodes of "Blue Bloods" Next Month
CBS's longtime staple of Friday night television will return for its 13th season on October 7. The first episode of the new season of "Blue Bloods" is titled "Keeping the Faith," and based on a promo photo released a few weeks ago, Stacy Keach will return as Archbishop Kearns and join the Reagans at their family dinner. Will Hochman will guest star as Joe Hill, and there is a seat at the table for him too.
Per CBS, "The job takes a dangerous turn for the Reagans when Eddie and Jamie deal with a domestic violence case associated with an investigation led by Danny and Baez. Also, Frank and his friend, Archbishop Kearns, go on a mission to avail themselves to an unfiltered look at the city; and Erin is presented with a surprising offer by her ex-husband, Jack Boyle, regarding her run for District Attorney."
"Blue Bloods" has aired Friday nights on CBS since 2010, and last season the show aired its 250th episode. Broadway Stages is proud to be the studio production company partner-of-choice of such a long-running and successful show.
Showtime's "Let the Right One In" Screening at New York Comic Con
"Let the Right One In" is coming to Showtime on Sunday, October 9, but those lucky enough to attend New York Comic Con can get a sneak peek at the vampire drama series two days early. At 8 p.m. on Friday, October 7, Comic Con will hold a special screening followed by a Q&A with the cast and creators.
John Ajvide Lindqvist's popular 2004 novel "Let the Right One In" follows the relationship between a bullied 12-year-old boy and a vampire child in suburban Stockholm in the early 1980s. Showrunner Andrew Hinderaker ("Penny Dreadful") is moving the action to New York and adding additional characters and storylines. Seith Mann, who has directed episodes of "The Wire," "The Walking Dead," and "Homeland," will direct.
Oscar-nominated actor Demián Bichir ("A Better Life") and Madison Taylor Baez star as a father and daughter dealing with unique circumstances. She was turned into a vampire 10 years earlier and is now, according to Showtime, "seemingly frozen in time at the age of 12" and living "a closed-in life, able to go out only at night, while her father does his best to provide her with the human blood she needs to stay alive." Kevin Carroll, Jacob Buster, Ian Foreman, Anika Noni Rose, and Grace Gummer appear in supporting roles.
"Spoiler Alert: The Hero Dies" Coming to Theaters in December
At Broadway Stages, we do more than support a wide variety of New York-based television series. Our stages are also used for film projects, and one highly anticipated production is coming soon to a theater near you.
"Spoiler Alert: The Hero Dies," starring Jim Parsons ("Big Bang Theory") and directed by Michael Showalter ("The Eyes of Tammy Faye"), will open in select cities (New York, Los Angeles, and San Francisco) on December 2, 2022, and then expand domestically on December 9. The worldwide release is scheduled for December 16.
Filmed at one of our Brooklyn based soundstages, the upcoming film stars Parsons as Michael Ausiello, author of the bestselling memoir "Spoiler Alert: The Hero Dies." The memoir chronicles his 14-year relationship with partner Kit Cowan, who died of terminal cancer in 2015. The film also stars Ben Aldridge from "Pennyworth" as Cowan and two-time Oscar winner Sally Field as Cowan's mother. Antoni Porowski of "Queer Eye" and Jeffery Self from "Search Party" will also appear in the film.
