Inside Broadway Stages | What's Filming
/New York’s film and television industry is back on track following lengthy pandemic-related production delays. Many of your favorite TV shows will be returning soon, while others are beginning to film new seasons. For almost 40 years Broadway Stages has played a role in this industry, and we are proud to continue to be a part of it all. Here is a quick look at some of the exciting productions being filmed at our facilities.
“The Gilded Age” Adds More Stars for Second Season
The first season of “The Gilded Age” was a big hit for HBO, with its finale garnering 1.6 million viewers. The series features multiple Tony Award winners, including Christine Baranski, Cynthia Nixon, Audra McDonald, and Nathan Lane, and even more will appear in season two. Laura Benanti, who recently co-starred on Hulu’s “Life & Beth,” and Robert Sean Leonard from “House” will appear as recurring cast members in the upcoming season.
Also joining the ensemble cast as recurring guest stars are Christopher Denham, David Furr, Ben Lamb, Matilda Lawler, Dakin Mathews, Michael Braugher, and Nicole Brydon Bloom. Additionally, 13 recurring stars from season one will return as regulars, bringing the list of series regulars to 24. Not returning is Thomas Cocquerel, who played Marian’s love interest Tom Raikes. No word yet on whether Pumpkin will play a bigger role in the new season.
“Fire Island” Coming to Hulu on June 3
Get ready to travel to “Fire Island” with Bowen Yang and Margaret Cho. On June 3, Hulu will release the romantic comedy also starring Joel Kim Booster, who wrote the screenplay inspired by Jane Austen’s “Pride and Prejudice.”
For those unfamiliar with New York geography, Fire Island is the largest of the state’s outer barrier islands. Just south of Long Island, it is a popular vacation destination for members of the LGBTQ community. The film follows a group of gay friends who take a trip to the Pines, a hamlet on Fire Island, where they party and mingle with wealthier vacationers.
Hulu Bringing “Life & Beth” Back for a Second Season
Amy Schumer and Michael Cera will return for 10 more episodes of the semi-autobiographical dramedy “Life & Beth.” Hulu dropped the entire first season on March 18, and reviews have been overwhelmingly positive.
Schumer stars as the title character, Beth, a successful woman in a long-term relationship with a steady career as a wine distributor. Despite her seemingly perfect life, she feels bored and unfulfilled. A sudden tragedy forces Beth to examine her past to see who she wants to become.
“Life & Beth” has Schumer back writing, directing, executive producing, and starring in her own show. Her previous show, “Inside Amy Schumer,” ran for four seasons on Comedy Central from 2013 to 2016.
“Evil” Returning in June for Season Three
Mark your calendars, “Evil” fans. On June 12, Kristen, David, and Ben will return to Paramount+ for more supernatural investigations. The third season will consist of 10 episodes, with a new one dropping every Sunday. Additionally, Andrea Martin, who plays Sister Andrea, will return as a series regular.
In the season two finale, called “C is for Cannibal,” fans finally saw Kristen and newly ordained priest David give in to their urges and share a kiss. The cliffhanger moment ended years of speculation of “would they or wouldn’t they?” but many questions still remain for the new season. What is the story with RSM Fertility? What is happening to Kristen’s daughter Lexus? Hopefully the series writers will shed some light on these storylines as the team continues to delve into the paranormal.
André Braugher Joins “The Good Fight”
Emmy winner André Braugher will appear as a series regular in the upcoming sixth season of “The Good Fight.” He is well-known for his starring roles on long-running TV shows like “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” and “Homicide: Life on the Street.”
Another familiar face appearing in the new season is Alan Cumming, who played political consultant Eli Gold on all seven seasons of “The Good Wife.” Cumming will reprise his role as a guest performer on several episodes. Longtime cast members Delroy Lindo and Cush Jumbo will not return, and Paramount+ has not announced if Mandy Patinkin will come back as Judge Wackner.
