Grow NYC Programs and Events

As New Yorkers we hear a lot about the green movement, sustainability, and conservation. But what does all of this mean? Where can we go to learn more about our environment, and what we can do to make a difference? We suggest you take a look at Grow NYC for insight and hands-on opportuniies to engage in the positive transformation of our local environment.

GrowNYC was originally created in 1970 as the Council on the Environment of New York City. Born out of the spirit of the first Earth Day (April 22, 1970), the Council was initially a policy-based organization, writing comprehensive reports about quality of life issues like air quality, traffic, and noise.

Today, GrowNYC is described as a hands-on non-profit with the aim of improving quality of life through environmental programs that transform communities, and empower residents to secure a clean and healthy environment. Whether it’s operating the world famous Union Square Greenmarket, building a new community garden, teaching young people about the environment, or improving recycling awareness, Grow NYC is championing programs that not only make a significant difference in advancing the condition of our city’s environment, but also are fun and educational.

Grow NYC envisions a New York in which every resident can flourish — every garden, every school, every community, every rooftop, and every borough.
