Spotlight | 92NY
/Welcome to Broadway Stages’ Spotlight, where we feature local shops, restaurants, organizations, individuals, and venues. During the month of November, we are expressing our gratitude to those who make our city great by providing services, support, and fellowship to our neighbors. This week we shine the spotlight on 92NY.
With the tenth anniversary of GivingTuesday (November 29, 2022), it seems apropos that we celebrate our friends at 92NY. After all, #GivingTuesday was born at the Belfer Center for Innovation and Social Impact, one of eight programming centers that make up the 92NY.
Formerly known as the 92nd Street Y, 92NY is a world-class cultural and community center where people all over the world connect through culture, arts, entertainment, and conversation. For over 140 years, they have harnessed the power of arts and ideas to enrich, enlighten and change lives, and the power of community to repair the world.
As a proudly Jewish organization, 92NY enthusiastically welcomes and reaches out to people of all ages, races, faiths, and backgrounds while embracing Jewish values like learning and self-improvement, the importance of family, the joy of life, and giving back to our wonderfully diverse and growing community, both locally and around the world.
Founded in 1874 as the Young Men’s Hebrew Association, 92NY (often called “the Y”) has been bringing people together and providing exceptional, groundbreaking programs in the performing and visual arts; literature and culture; adult and children’s education; talks on a vast range of topics; health and fitness; and Jewish life.
Today, 92NY reaches beyond its core constituency, serving people of diverse racial, religious, ethnic, and economic backgrounds, seeking partnerships that empower programs and broaden influence.
In addition to the Belfer Center for Innovation and Social Impact, that seeks to escalate 92NY’s renowned programming through media, partnerships, and collaboration, programming centers at 92NY include:
Bronfman Center for Jewish Life- an inclusive home interweaving students, scholars, and community partners who enhance their lives and the world around them through transformative learning and action.
Lillian & Sol Goldman Family Center for Youth & Family- promoting the healthy development and growth of children and families
May Center for Health, Fitness & Sport- a full-service gym
Milstein/Rosenthal Center for Media & Technology, a home for 92NY’s constantly evolving technology-based initiatives
Gilda and Henry Block School of the Arts- comprises the School of Music, the Harkness Dance Center, and the Art Center (which includes the Ceramics Center, the Jewelry Center, and Fine Art & Design)
Charles Simon Center for Adult Life & Learning- offers a unique blend of social, educational, and cultural programs for adults at every stage of their lives
