Shop Local on Small Business Saturday | November 26

Saturday, November 26, 2022, is Small Business Saturday – a day to celebrate and support small businesses and all they do for our communities.  When you spend locally, a majority of that goes back into the local community. In fact, of every $100 you spend at a local business, $68 goes back into the community. So, the money you spend is more than just a purchase, it’s an investment in your neighborhood!

Small Business Saturday got its start in 2010. In the midst of the recession, American Express created Small Business Saturday®  to encourage people to Shop Small and bring more holiday shopping to small businesses. The event takes place on the Saturday after Thanksgiving, but you can shop local all year long.

In 2011, the Senate unanimously passed a resolution supporting the day, and officials in all 50 states participated. We encourage you to do your part to support the local businesses that provide products and services to our community every day.  Listed below are a few local Shop Local initiatives you can support.

  • Enjoy deals in Brooklyn by taking part in #ShopMyrtle. Did you know that 4 out of 5 businesses are independently owned on Myrtle Avenue?

  • In Astoria, Queens you can participate in a #ShopsSmallAstoria retail crawl with promotional incentives. Keep an eye on their Instagram for more details!

  • Staten Island has a great website where you can patronize several local retailers in one convenient online spot! And as an added bonus, you can get free local delivery through the end of the year!

Thank you for joining us in supporting our local businesses, on Small Business Saturday and throughout the year.
