Gotham Awards Nominees | "Tár" Nabs Five!
/"Tár," a psychological drama about a world-famous composer and conductor played by Cate Blanchett, is the frontrunner at the 32nd annual Gotham Independent Film Awards, scheduled to take place on November 28. The Gotham Film & Media Institute established the awards in 1991 to highlight films made in the Northeastern United States and honor independent filmmakers.
"Tár" is the third feature film directed, written, and produced by Todd Field, who earned Oscar nominations for both of his previous films – 2001's "In the Bedroom" and 2006's "Little Children." His latest film is up for five awards at Gotham, with Field earning nods for Best Feature and Best Screenplay. Two-time Oscar winner Blanchett won the Volpi Cup for Best Actress at the Venice Film Festival last month, and she is in the running for Outstanding Lead Performance at Gotham. Two of her co-stars, Nina Hoss and Noemi Merlant, will compete for Outstanding Supporting Performance.
"Everything Everywhere All At Once," "Aftersun," and "The Inspection" also performed well, earning three nominations each. We are also excited to report that the cast of Hulu's "Fire Island," a gay rom-com that includes scenes filmed at our facilities, will win a special tribute award.
This year's nominees include 23 feature films, 15 television series, and 35 performances in 12 award categories. A full list of nominations, selected by critics, curators, programmers, and writers, can be found here.
