Business Spotlight | Brother Vellies
/Welcome to Broadway Stages’ Business Spotlight, where we feature local shops, restaurants and venues in the communities where we have operations. We encourage our readers to join us in supporting these establishments and local economic growth.
Beginning in 2013 with a goal in mind, Toronto-native Aurora James set out to keep traditional African design practices and techniques alive, while also creating and sustaining artisanal jobs in a way that works with our planet. Since then, the creative minds and talented artisans at Brother Vellies have been busy with a collection that is produced across the globe - South Africa, Kenya, Mexico, Morocco, Ethiopia, Burkina Faso, Italy, Haiti and at home in New York City. Over the last seven years, Brother Vellies has launched upscale lines of footwear, belts, and bags through their flagship catalogue, various home goods in their “Bodega” line, and even an episodic radio show which can be found on their website. They also offer a subscription service of curated and unique goods via their “Something Special” program!
What began as a storefront on 71 Franklin St. in Brooklyn has blossomed into a burgeoning brand whose capsule-esque pieces can be seen across the whole city. For those interested in elevating their wardrobe with Brother Vellies’ unique style, we encourage you to check out their Instagram, Facebook, and Pinterest pages to get an idea of their constantly evolving catalogue. We have provided below some of their amazing merchandise to peak your interest! If this sounds like what you’re looking for, then head over to their storefront — open seven days per week — or check out their website; either way, be sure to tell them Broadway Stages sent you!
