Janeane Garofalo Joining "Billions" in Season Five

When Showtime’s popular drama “Billions” finally returns to continue its fifth season later this year, there will be at least one new face in the cast. Janeane Garofalo (recently seen on the Paramount+ series “Younger”) will appear in a recurring role as the owner of a legal cannabis corporation.

Last spring, Showtime aired the first seven episodes of the fifth season before the pandemic suddenly halted production on the remaining episodes. Earlier this year, the cast and crew returned to Broadway Stages to finish filming the five remaining episodes, which are expected to air in the fall.

“Billions” follows shrewd billionaire hedge fund manager Bobby “Axe” Axelrod (Damian Lewis) as he tries to steer clear of the law while growing his firm’s wealth. Chuck Rhoades (Paul Giamatti), the bold and brash New York Attorney General, has his eyes on Axe, as he seeks to be seen as a leader in the fight against financial corruption in America.

When we last saw Axe, he was at war with rival investor Mike Prince (Corey Stoll) and attempting to sabotage Wendy’s (Maggie Siff) budding romance with an artist. Meanwhile, Chuck has destroyed the career of Treasury Secretary Todd Krakow (Danny Strong) and is now focusing his attention on getting his father a kidney transplant, through whatever means necessary.

Showtime has ordered a sixth season of “Billions,” and series co-creator Andrew Ross Sorkin is currently developing a movie with HBO about the GameStop stock craze that shook up Wall Street earlier this year. We are so happy to see New York-based productions return to the small screen, and we cannot wait for our favorite local establishments to reopen so we can support them and boost the local economy.
