Brooklyn Public Library to Honor Spike and Tonya Lee
/Broadway Stages is proud to be among the sponsors of the Brooklyn Public Library’s 2021 Virtual Gala, From Our Stoop to Yours, on Tuesday, April 20 at 7 pm. This year’s honorees are Brooklyn’s own Spike Lee and his wife, the author, producer, and activist Tonya Lewis Lee. In addition to Spike and Tonya’s remarkable body of work, the gala will serve to pay tribute to the many ways they have supported our city throughout the pandemic and in the fight toward justice and equality, a commitment that the Brooklyn Public Library (BPL) shares.
Through the hardships of the past year, BPL has remained a source of hope and connection for Brooklyn’s 2.6 million residents. They have hosted more than 7,000 virtual public programs for nearly one million children and adults, from tutoring and career guidance, to ESOL classes and grief support groups. BPL also extended free reliable Wi-Fi beyond their branches for the hundreds of thousands of Brooklynites who lack affordable broadband access at home.
Please join us in supporting the Brooklyn Public Library as they honor Spike and Tonya Lee. You can purchase tickets to the BPL Virtual Gala here. Proceeds from this benefit will directly support the Library’s mission; as an independent non-profit organization gifts are sincerely welcome. We encourage you to learn more about the BPL – books are just the beginning of what they offer our community.
