Broadway Stages Celebrates Golden Globes Awards Nominees

Awards season is in full swing, as this week nominations for both the Critics Choice Awards and Golden Globe Awards were announced. We are excited to see that several television productions filmed at Broadway Stages’ studios in New York are up for Golden Globes.

FX’s “Pose,” which aired its final episode over the summer, filmed their pilot at our facilities. The groundbreaking show is up for best drama series, and lead actor Billy Porter and actress MJ Rodriguez are nominated in the lead acting categories. “Pose” faces tough competition from HBO’s hugely popular “Succession,” which leads all television programs with five nominations.

Broadway Stages is proud to play a part in sharing the history of New York City’s Black and Latino LGBTQ drag ball culture scene of the 1980s and 1990s. Porter made history in 2019 as the first openly gay Black man to win a Primetime Emmy Award in a lead acting category for his performance as emcee and mentor Pray Tell. He also received a Tony Award for his performance in “Kinky Boots” in 2013. Can he add a Golden Globe to his shelf too? We hope so! And we have our fingers crossed that his co-star Rodriguez will earn her first trophy. Earlier this year, she became the first transgender nominee for a Primetime Emmy in the lead actress in a drama category.

Rodriguez faces competition from another Broadway Stages star. Christine Baranski is nominated for her leading role on Paramount+’s “The Good Fight.” Surprisingly, this is her first Golden Globe nomination for the show and her first nomination since 1997, when she was nominated as a supporting actress in “Cybill.” Broadway Stages has provided soundstages for all five seasons of “The Good Fight” and all seven seasons of its predecessor, “The Good Wife.” Best of luck to Baranski, and congratulations to the entire cast and crew on being renewed for a sixth season.

We are also proud that Ewan McGregor earned a nomination for his performance in Netflix’s miniseries “Halston.” The miniseries tells the story of the legendary fashion designer to the stars Roy Halston Frowick, known by all as simply Halston. McGregor already took home a Primetime Emmy for his performance.

The Golden Globes ceremony will take place on Sunday, January 9, which is the same day as the Critics Choice Awards. NBC has aired the ceremony for years, but the network announced earlier this year that they would not be broadcasting the 2022 show because of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association’s lack of diversity in its voting members. The association nominated a higher number of diverse nominees this year than previous years, but it remains to be seen if the 2022 ceremony will be broadcast by a major network. So, check back next month to see how our nominees fared, and follow along as the awards season heats up. Best of luck to all nominees.
