Staten Island Renaissance Includes TV and Film Industry
/“The spotlight is finally on Staten Island and a lot of people are starting to recognize us,” said Linda Baran, president of the Staten Island Chamber of Commerce in an interview with Crain’s New York Business. The Island is indeed experiencing unprecedented development and growth, including the television and film industry. Staten Island Stages, LLC an assignee of Broadway Stages, Ltd. is comprised of a 69-acre property that is being developed to be a full-service studio production facility offering ample space for film, television and music video productions of all sizes. The campus includes the former Arthur Kill correctional facility located in the Charleston section of Staten Island. A number of television and film projects have been shot at the facility due to its authenticity and real “prison feel” including When They See Us, Wu Tang: An American Saga, Oceans 8, Daredevil, and Orange is the New Black. Plans are underway to transform the campus with the construction of additional sound- stages and other upgrades. With amazing backdrops for interior and exterior filming this 69-acre campus will become a mecca for the production of movies, television shows, and music videos in Staten Island. “Staten Island has been such a welcoming community and we look forward to continuing to build our relationships with local businesses, organizations, and residents of the Island,” said president and CEO of Broadway Stages, Gina Argento. Broadway Stages is proud to be a part of the growth of Staten Island and to call Staten Island home. Read the entire Crain’s New York Business article here.
