Broadway Stages Helps Alliance Clean Up McGolrick Park

On May 30, Broadway Stages teamed up with the McGolrick Park Neighborhood Alliance for the first cleanup day of the season.

Neighbors, officials, and local businesses all came together early Saturday morning to lend a helping hand. Together, we were able to suggest locations for the placement of new trash cans and collect data to help find the sources of our litter problem.

We are always happy to lend a hand to make Greenpoint a great place to work, play, and live!

Congratulations to FIAO for Another Successful Scholarship Fundraising Gala

Broadway Stages is proud to support the Federation of Italian-American Organizations of Brooklyn (FIAO). For 36 years, FIAO has provided a gamut of services directed at improving the quality of life of individuals and families in the community, with a focus on the most vulnerable members of society – immigrants, seniors, and youth.

These services include social assistance and educational and recreational programs. They also provide scholarships to high school graduates pursuing higher education and cultural initiatives such as the Brooklyn Columbus Day Parade and exchange programs.

A state-of-the-art cultural center called Il Centro will soon be located at 8711 18th Ave., (Cristoforo Colombo Blvd). This will allow the organization to expand services and will serve as a cultural resource to Italian Americans as well as become a model to all ethnic groups in how to preserve, celebrate, and share one's own heritage in a multicultural society.

Congratulations to the scholarship winners and FIAO for an amazing year. For more information please visit http://fiaobrooklyn.org/.

Broadway Stages Helps Greenpoint Soup Kitchen Give Back

For nearly 15 years, the Church of Ascension has been serving meals every Saturday to those in need. Reverend John Marz has been leading the church the last four years and is passionate about community outreach; in return, the community is reaching back.

Josh Cohen, owner of Anella, teamed up with Broadway Stages to provide food, equipment, and time to help the church help the community.

In addition, the church has found support as a filming location. Last year, despite a six-month freeze on filming in Greenpoint, the church took in $36,000 from filming. This funding allows them to support the homeless, run the soup kitchen, and provide aid to those fighting alcohol addiction.
