Blue Bloods Wedding of the Year - A Must See!

Filmed near our headquarters in Greenpoint, the Regans have been part of the Broadway Stages family for almost a decade, and we couldn't be more delighted.  Congratulations to "Blue Bloods" for nine successful seasons. We can't wait to see what happens in season 10. And of course congratulations to Eddie and Jamie! We'll be watching.

"The Good Fight" Renewed for a Fourth Season on CBS

Broadway Stages is excited to announce that "The Good Fight" has been renewed for a fourth season at CBS All Access. Filmed at our facilites in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, Broadway Stages has been the production partner for "The Good Fight," a spinoff of "The Good Wife," which aired for seven seasons on CBS and also filmed at Broadway Stages. See what Variety is saying about the upcoming season.

Staten Island EDC Recognizes Broadway Stages With Top 31 Award

At this year's Staten Island Economic Development Corporation's (SIEDC) annual conference, Broadway Stages was recognized as one of the top 31 growing companies in the borough. Gina Argento, Broadway Stages' President and CEO, received the award on behalf of the company.

"We've put our heart and soul into our Staten Island campus in Arthur Kill and are excited to see the growth that it's bringing to the community," said Gina. "We are proud to be a member of the SIEDC and a part of the Charleston community."

In 2017 Broadway Stages acquired the 69-acre campus in Arthur Kill, located in the Charleston section of Staten Island. Today, it's being designed as a full-service production facility offering ample space for film, television, and music video productions of all sizes.

2019 TV Season Brings New Exciting Shows and Pilots Filmed at Broadway Stages

Broadway Stages has worked with every major Hollywood film studio on feature films and produced scores of television shows. The success of each production comes from the efforts of thousands of individuals, both in front of the cameras and behind the scenes, who help make film and television a reality. We're also excited to play host to seven television pilots (out of a total nine being filmed in New York), and a YouTube comedy pilot airing in 2019. And what a lineup of pilots it is. From an "NYPD Blue" sequel, and a reboot of "New York Undercover," to a supernatural thriller series, "The Last American Vampire," that follows a character from the popular novel Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. There's also a series called "Evil," about the battle between science and religion – think miracles and demonic possessions – as well as a show about the FBI's Most Wanted. Then we have "Sisters," a drama based on an Australian TV series about an only child who learns that her fertility doctor father conceived dozens of children, only two of which are girls. If that's not enough, then get ready for a fictional legal/family drama [not yet named] that centers on a prisoner who becomes a lawyer, litigating cases for other inmates while fighting to overturn his own life sentence for a crime he didn't commit. And rounding out the 2019 pilots being filmed at Broadway Stages is YouTube's "It's a Man's World" (working title). The story is about a top female video game executive who, after being abruptly fired from her job, decides to start applying for gaming jobs as a man and finds herself on a noticeably easier path to success. So – there's definitely something for everyone!

Welcome 2019 - 35 Years and Counting!

Where do we begin? 2018 was an exciting ride, and we are taking that momentum into the New Year.

In 2018 Broadway Stages celebrated its 35th anniversary, and we couldn't be prouder. We have evolved from a small music video production company with one sound stage in Astoria, Queens to one of the largest-growing film and television production companies in New York. We are grateful to our staff, our clients, vendors, suppliers, and community organizations that we work with and support – all play a key role in our positive, forward momentum.

We are thankful to the state of New York for its television and film production tax credit program that has played a critical part in drawing production and media companies to the state and securing continued economic growth. This program has enabled us to help meet the growing demands of our industry and put money back into our local and state economy.

As a company with local roots, we understand the needs of our community and the importance of giving back. Through financial, in-kind, and volunteer resources we have actively demonstrated our commitment to being a responsible and caring neighbor. And we take that commitment to the areas where we are expanding, like Staten Island and East New York.

Our approach to business is based on the recognition that it is our responsibility to not only generate economic growth, but also help address the social, educational, and environmental needs of our community. Our commitment to environmental sustainability has enabled us to bring value to our business – one third of our annual electricity consumption is offset by 50,000 square feet of solar panels – and our community – green rooftop wildflowers and farm projects have helped to improve the air and reduce stormwater runoff.  

We feel that this approach results in a win for us, our vendors and suppliers, our neighbors, our clients, our state, and our industry. We are excited to see what 2019 will bring and how we can continue to bring value to our community.

New York Film and Television Production Reaches Historic Highs

In this month's e-newsletter distributed by the New York Governor's Office of Motion Picture & Television Development, Broadway Stages and the other film and television production companies that call New York home were commended for reaching historic highs in film and television production and contributing to economic growth. With 56 projects currently filming on sound stages and streetscapes across New York state, this has been a stellar year for the industry, representing a combined $2.1 billion and more than 106,000 hires.

Broadway Stages - Our Contribution to the Industry
Broadway Stages has 53 studios in operation across three boroughs – Brooklyn, Queens, and Staten Island – and three more under construction. We are currently hosting 21 productions including "Blue Bloods," "Madam Secretary," "The Blacklist," "Bull," and "FBI" to name just a few. We are also gearing up for ABC’s "The Godfather of Harlem," a limited series to air on the Epix channel.

Broadway Stages is striving to meet the growing needs of the industry, while at the same time investing in the communities where we work. Our 2017 acquisition of the former 69-acre Arthur Kill Correctional Facility located in the Charleston section of Staten Island is estimated to create 1,500 jobs over the next several years. With an initial investment of $7 million to purchase the property, Broadway Stages plans to invest more than $20 million in private funds to update the campus. In addition, Broadway Stages will provide free shop space to Local United Scenic Artists (USA) 829 for their scenic artist apprenticeship program.

With one of five proposed sound stages completed and planning underway for the others, we are confident interest will continue to grow. Prior to any renovations, the prison facility had already been used by major Hollywood production companies for its authenticity and real "prison feel," including shows and films like "Orange is the New Black" and "Oceans 8."

We have also purchased property in the Village of Hastings-on-Hudson to meet growing film production demands. A prime location for filming, we anticipate the area will continue to benefit from the positive effect of economic growth derived by the film and television industry.

A Gift From Broadway Stages Saves Beloved Park Deli in Greenpoint, Brooklyn

Broadway Stages, the New York City film and television production company with headquarters in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, paid $30,000 to cover a 110 percent rent increase faced by the owner of the Park Deli, Krystyna Godawa. Offering a lifeline to keep the Park Deli in business, Broadway Stages also orders Krystyna's food for their local productions. "She's a staple for the local community but more importantly for our TV and film industry who all eat her amazing food," said Warren Cohn representing Broadway Stages.

"Orange Is the New Black" Films Sixth Season Inside Broadway Stages' Arthur Kill Prison on Staten Island

Since acquiring the Arthur Kill Correctional Facility on Staten Island in 2017, Broadway Stages has opened the grounds to film crews like that of "Blindspot," "Ocean’s 8," and "Orange Is the New Black."

Filming at a former correctional facility, where reminders of its former inhabitants are etched in the walls, brings authenticity and creates a sense of reality for the actors.

Broadway Stages plans to invest $20 million into the renovation of the 67-acre, 400-cell prison, but much of the property will remain genuine. Within the first five years, Broadway Stages foresees the creation of more than 1,300 on-site jobs and 350 construction jobs to support improvements and expansion at the Staten Island location.  For the full article by Meghan Giannotta with amNY.com, click here.

Broadway Stages Releases Brochure for Film and Television Industry Professionals

The film and television industry encompasses an extensive list of jobs and specializations broken down by department functions. To help job seekers better gauge the depth and magnitude of the film and television industry, Broadway Stages created a short and informational brochure differentiating the most common job opportunities for those interested.

Professionals in the field can be arranged into three general departments including production, creative, and camera. Broadway Stages has helped arrange the most common titles in the industry into one of the three general departments and provided a short description of each job.

As you can see by the large number of jobs titles, so many talents are required for a singular film. Crews can easily reach into hundreds, with some titles shared by more than one individual.
