Kings Theatre first opened in 1929 but closed its doors in 1977 and quickly fell into disrepair. In 2010 Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz announced that the theater would undergo a major renovation. Two years later the theater was added to the National Register of Historic Places. This month, the doors reopened and the legendary Motown singer Diana Ross performed at the grand re-opening.

The Groundswell Community Mural Project's at-risk youth program unveiled a new mural at Broadway Stages in Greenpoint, Brooklyn today. Entitled "Welcome to Greenpoint," the installation at 370 Greenpoint Avenue celebrates the neighborhood’s rich immigrant history and future as NYC's capital for TV and film. "We're honored that these students chose to build their gorgeous mural at Broadway Stages. They have put so much hard work into recreating, even re-imagining, our entire neighborhood. Their mural will be a constant reminder that Greenpoint is at the heart of who we all are," Broadway Stages president Gina Argento said.
