PRIDE Month in NYC | Strength in Solidarity

June is LGBTQ+ Pride Month. Throughout the month, Broadway Stages will celebrate NYC Pride by recognizing the exceptional people, businesses, and organizations of the LGBTQ+ community. We invite you to join us in celebrating their accomplishments throughout New York City!

June is Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer + (LGBTQ+) Pride Month in recognition of the June 28, 1969, Stonewall Uprising in Manhattan. The Stonewall Uprising was a tipping point for the Gay Liberation Movement in the United States. In 1994, a coalition of education-based organizations in the United States designated October as LGBT History Month.

The theme of NYC Pride 2023 is “Strength in Solidarity.” Legislation and physical violence have impacted members of the LGBTQ+ community this year, and NYC Pride wants to spotlight the power and resiliency of the community and its allies. “Many individuals within our community are recognized for their unyielding creativity and ingenuity, and when we blend the individual threads of our community with those of our allies, together we can see the magnificent tapestry our combined effort produces,” said NYC Pride Executive Director Sandra Pérez.

In New York City, Heritage of Pride is a nonprofit organization that plans and produces New York City’s official LGBTQ+ Pride events. Heritage of Pride works toward a future without discrimination where everyone has equal rights under the law. They do this by producing LGBTQ+ Pride events that inspire, educate, commemorate, and celebrate the diverse community of New York City. A hallmark event of NYC Pride is the Pride March. This year the March will proceed through the West Village on Sunday, June 25.

Throughout this month, Broadway Stages is excited to celebrate and recognize a few of our many LGBTQ+ friends and neighbors. We encourage you to join the various celebrations throughout the city and to patronize the LGBTQ+ businesses in your community year-round!
