Brooklyn Proud | Syrena Bakery

This year marks the 40th anniversary of Broadway Stages. In celebration of our 40th trip around the sun, we are shining the spotlight on the heart of our community – the local businesses that provide the essential or simply enjoyable, goods and services that allow us to thrive and delight in this great city we call home. We begin the series in our beloved Brooklyn with a look at the local shops that line our streets, providing a livelihood for our neighbors, family, and friends. Join us on our journey and get to know the people and businesses that make our community home. Today, we feature one of the more popular local Polish eateries in Brooklyn, Syrena Bakery.

Located on Norman Avenue in Greenpoint, Syrena Bakery was established 30 years ago with the goal of providing the highest quality and best tasting baked goods for the Greenpoint community. Their authentic breads and rolls come from Old World European recipes – apple strudels, cheesecakes and pastries are made just as they were in Europe a long time ago.

Their traditional Polish babkas are a customer favorite!  Handmade cheese and fruit strudels as well as poppy seed and walnut strudels are made daily.  Their Polish style cakes include cheesecake, apple cake moist, flavorful pound cakes are among the tastiest around.  Handmade angel wings are light and delicate and melt in your mouth!  And their cookies come in a variety of flavors and tastes.  And if you are looking for something savory, they’ve got it!  From hot egg breakfast sandwiches to delicious deli sandwiches and of course fresh coffee and cold beverages, Syrena Bakery has you covered.

And their dedication goes beyond their bakery doors and into the community.  During the pandemic, Broadway Stages partnered with Syrena Bakery ordering 200 loaves of their delicious bread to donate to a food bank in Bushwick, set-up by Anita Haines, the Executive Director of Ujima Community Working Together.  Syrena Bakery knows the importance of being part of a community. We applaud their generosity, dedication to represent European and Polish cuisine, desire to nourish our community, and to employ our neighbors.

Take a look at the photo gallery below to see some of their delicious offerings!  Then head over to Syrena Bakery for a satisfying taste of Poland. They are open 6 days a week, Monday to Friday from 5 am to 6:30 pm and Saturday from 5 am to 5 pm.  When you get there, be sure to tell them that Broadway Stages sent you.
