Inside Broadway Stages | What's Filming

With spring upon us, television shows are returning, and we are getting excited for summer movies. We are proud of all the amazing productions being filmed at our facilities and the role they play in elevating New York's film and television industry and the local economy. Here are a few updates on some of the shows and films that call Broadway Stages home.

Trailer Drops for Jennifer Lawrence R-Rated Comedy "No Hard Feelings"

Summer is traditionally a time for big action blockbusters and raunchy comedies. At Broadway Stages, we can't wait to see the coming-of-age comedy "No Hard Feelings" starring Jennifer Lawrence. She plays Maddie, a woman who responds to a Craigslist ad posted by a desperate mother (Laura Benanti) who wants her reserved, socially isolated teenage son (Andrew Barth Feldman) to go on a date before he leaves for college. Matthew Broderick, Hasan Minhaj, Natalie Morales, Scott MacArthur, Kyle Mooney, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach round out the cast.

Director and co-writer Gene Stupnitsky is no stranger to R-rated comedies. He co-wrote and directed 2019's "Good Boys" and co-wrote 2011's "Bad Teacher." Stupnitsky also spent several seasons as a writer and director on NBC's "The Office." Sharing writing duties on "No Hard Feelings" is John Phillips, who wrote 2016's gross-out comedy "Dirty Grandpa."

Mark your calendars – "No Hard Feelings" opens nationwide on June 23.

Damian Lewis Returning to "Billions"

The Axe is coming back to Showtime's "Billions." For five seasons, Damian Lewis portrayed cunning billionaire hedge fund manager Bobby "Axe" Axelrod, who grew his firm, Axe Capital, while avoiding the long arm of the law. At the end of the fifth season, Axe went on the run, and Lewis departed the popular show.

Lewis recently sat down with Stephen Colbert to share fun stories about his acting method and announce to the world his character's return.

Season seven is currently in production and expected to air later this year. The upcoming season will include 12 episodes, and Lewis will appear in six of them. Broadway Stages has been the production partner-of-choice for every season of "Billions," and we are thrilled with this recent announcement and cannot wait to see the return of Axe.

"The Girls on the Bus" Wraps Filming in New York

A new political drama filmed at our facilities will be coming to HBO Max later this year. "The Girls on the Bus" centers on four female journalists who uncover a scandal that could take down the president and threaten democracy itself.

Melissa Benoist ("Supergirl") stars as Sadie McCarthy, a young journalist who seeks to cover a presidential campaign like the reporters in Tim Crouse's 1973 non-fiction book "The Boys on the Bus." Carla Gugino ("The Haunting of Hill House"), Natasha Behnam ("Blake & Emily Get Famous"), and Christina Elmore ("Insecure") play three women McCarthy befriends on the campaign trail.

Mark Consuelos ("Riverdale") will appear in a recurring role as a former Hollywood action star who decides to run for president after polling positively on Twitter. He recently shared a behind-the-scenes photo from the set on Instagram. His co-stars include Scott Foley ("Scandal"), Brandon Scott ("Dead to Me"), Griffin Dunne ("This Is Us"), Leslie Fray ("Reacher"), and Tala Ashe ("DC's Legends of Tomorrow").

"The Girls on the Bus" draws inspiration from New York Times journalist Amy Chozick's 2018 book "Chasing Hillary," which chronicles her decade spent reporting on Hillary Clinton's multiple presidential campaigns. Chozick developed the series alongside Julie Plec, who has written and directed episodes of "Vampire Academy," "The Vampire Diaries," and "Legacies." Both women also serve as executive producers.

"Girls5eva" Picked Up by Netflix

"Girls5eva," a critically acclaimed comedy about a once popular '90s girl group attempting a comeback, ran for two seasons on Peacock only to find itself cut from the lineup. Netflix has thrown the show a lifeline, and a third season is now in the works.

Created by Meredith Scardino and executive-produced by Tina Fey, "Girls5eva" stars Sara Bareilles, Renée Elise Goldsberry, Paula Pell, and Busy Philipps as the grown women hoping for another chance to make it big in the music industry 20 years after hitting their peak.

Pell recently spoke with Seth Meyers about the show.

Thank you Netflix for saving this show! We can't wait to see what's in store next for the girls.

"The Instigators" Announces Cast Members

Matt Damon and Casey Affleck are currently filming "The Instigators," an Apple Original Film about two thieves who go on the run with one of their therapists following a botched robbery. The two are currently in Boston but will make their way to New York City for additional filming soon.

Director Doug Liman ("Swingers") is reuniting with Damon more than two decades after the two paired up for the 2002 blockbuster "The Bourne Identity." Recent Oscar nominee Hong Chau ("The Whale") and Golden Globe winner Paul Walter Hauser ("Black Bird") have also been cast in the heist thriller. Michael Stuhlbarg ("Dopesick") was recently announced to be joining the production as well.
