Inside Broadway Stages | What's Filming
We are thrilled that New York's film and television industry continues its rebound and so proud of all the amazing productions being filmed at our facilities and the role they play in elevating the local economy. Here are a few updates on some of the shows, movies, and performers that call Broadway Stages home.
Apple TV+ Sci-Fi Dramedy "Hello Tomorrow!" Coming Soon
On February 17, Apple TV+ will drop the first three episodes of its latest original programming, "Hello Tomorrow!" The retro-futuristic half-hour show stars Emmy winner Billy Crudup ("The Morning Show") as Jack, a traveling salesman trying to convince people to buy timeshares on the moon. The trailer, which dropped last week, shows a world reminiscent of the 1950s but with robots and gadgets to walk the dog, take out the trash, and more.
The series co-stars Hank Azaria ("The Simpsons"), Dagmara Dominczyk ("Succession"), Matthew Maher ("Our Flag Means Death"), Alison Pill ("The Newsroom"), Nicholas Podany ("Summertime Dropouts"), Jacki Weaver ("Silver Linings Playbook"), Dewshane Williams ("In the Dark"), and Haneefah Wood ("Murderville").
We know how much work goes into creating a show like this, and we are so excited to see everyone's hard work pay off in a few weeks.
Christine Baranski Most Nominated TV Performer Ever at Critics' Choice Awards
Broadway Stages veteran Christine Baranski recently set a record with her final Critics' Choice Awards nomination for "The Good Fight." Though she is yet to win for her television work, Baranski is the first performer to earn 10 nominations in the 13-year history of the awards show. The final season of the long-running legal drama earned four nominations at the recent ceremony.
In 2012, the Emmy and two-time Tony Award winner earned her first nod for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for "The Good Wife," the precursor to "The Good Fight" that was also filmed at our facilities. She earned three more nominations for the show over the next few years and also nabbed a nomination for Best Guest Performer in a Comedy Series in 2016 for her guest spot on "The Big Bang Theory." She earned five more nominations in the category Best Actress in a Drama Series for her work on "The Good Fight."
Baranski is currently starring in another production being filmed at Broadway Stages, "The Gilded Age." We are so thrilled with her success and can't wait to see what the next season has in store for her character Agnes van Rhijn.
"Godfather of Harlem" Returns to MGM+
The third season of "Godfather of Harlem" returned last week on MGM+, the rebranded cable network formerly called EPIX. The show took a year-and-a-half long hiatus and returned with some big changes in front of the camera.
The most notable change is that due to scheduling conflicts Jason Alan Carvell has replaced Nigél Thatch as civil rights activist Malcolm X. Forest Whitaker continues to star as legendary crime boss Bumpy Johnson, who spent 11 years at Alcatraz then returned home in the early 1960s to find the neighborhood he once ruled controlled by the Italian mob. Recent Critics' Choice Award winner Giancarlo Esposito ("Better Call Saul") has returned as Congressman Adam Clayton Powell Jr., a pastor-turned-politician who represented Harlem in the U.S. House of Representatives for more than two decades. Whoopi Goldberg will also return as Miss Willa, and Michael Raymond-James ("Law & Order: Organized Crime") has joined the cast as Italian mob boss Joe Colombo.
In season three, Bumpy continues to battle for control of Harlem, this time butting heads with the Cuban Mafia from neighboring Spanish Harlem. This rivalry puts Bumpy, his loved ones, and his community in the crosshairs of ruthless Latin assassins and ultimately the CIA. Whitaker recently praised the cast and discussed the new season with .
MGM+ will drop a new episode (10 total) each Sunday into the spring, so there is plenty of time to catch up on the first two episodes of this award-winning series if you missed them.
Prime Video Releases Trailer for "Harlem" Season Two
Prime Video's popular comedy series "Harlem" will return for its second season on February 3. A year ago, creator, writer, and executive producer Tracy Oliver ("Girls Trip") introduced viewers to Camille (Meagan Good), Tye (Jerrie Johnson), Quinn (Grace Byers), and Angie (Shoniqua Shandai), four women in their thirties living in Harlem trying to balance love, life, and their careers.
The four young women will return for season two, in which Camille will try to put the pieces of her life back together after blowing up her career and disrupting her love life. Tye will consider her future following her health scare in season one. Quinn will go on a journey of self-discovery and explore her sexuality, and Angie will find her career taking a promising turn.
This season will add new recurring characters played by Rachel True, Courtnee Carter, and Luke Forbes. Rick Fox, Sherri Shepherd, Countess Vaughn, and Lil Rel Howery will make guest appearances this season.
Oliver, Good, Johnson, and Shandai recently spoke to Variety Studios about what to expect in season two. You can rewatch the 10-episode first season on Prime Video before the first two episodes drop on February 3. Additional episodes will be added each week.
