Spotlight | Harlem Film House
Welcome to Broadway Stages’ Spotlight, where we feature local shops, restaurants, organizations, individuals, and venues. This month we are going beyond the boroughs where we have operations to promote neighboring businesses. Join us this week as our journey takes us to the Harlem Film House.
Organizations like the Harlem Film House are working to bring up-and-coming creators and entrepreneurs in underserved communities worldwide to the forefront of the creative process. This 501(c)(3) corporation offers workshops, events, and a community to those who grew up in the global culture of Hip Hop.
Programs like ACT UP! offer performers the opportunity to do dramatic readings of works from developing writers. It also serves as a networking opportunity for business owners, dreamers, and investors.
The Boss Pitch is a “Shark-Tank” style experience where emerging businesspeople pitch their projects to women investors and executives.
And BossChicks University provides courses dedicated to helping women entrepreneurs move forward and upward.
The Harlem Film House also offers a fiscal scholarship program (HFH FSP) that enables content creators to overcome economic obstacles. This program allows filmmakers to receive tax-deductible contributions/donations from individuals or corporations.
But among the most dominant offering of the Harlem Film House is the annual Hip Hop Film Festival. Every season the festival welcomes directors and producers from around the world, making it an ideal tourist attraction in the Harlem community. But, most impressively, the event shares the profits with its participants. Among the awards they give out yearly is the G.O.A.T. (Greatest of All Time) award. This year, the lifetime achievement award was given to American film director, producer, and actor, Warrington Hudlin.
The Film House also offers 247films.tv, a streaming network optimized for mobile viewing. This platform expands the festival’s audience beyond the boroughs of New York to all who have an internet connection. Moreover, artists profit from the platform’s subscription base and enjoy direct exposure to distributors like Revolt and Netflix.
Harlem Film House is a safe space for creators, filmmakers, and movie lovers from around the world. If you are interested in supporting the Film House, you can make a tax-deductible donation HERE.
