Inside Broadway Stages | What’s Filming

Summer is around the corner, and that means that a bunch of your favorite shows are returning soon. Here are updates on some of the amazing productions filmed at our soundstages.

“Evil” Returning to Paramount+ on Sunday, June 12 for Third Season

The popular series filmed at our facilities in Brookyn, is coming back with 10 new episodes, one dropping each Sunday on Paramount+. The season three trailer shows that the team will continue to investigate frightening paranormal phenomena in the new season, but one major change is that recurring star Andrea Martin, who plays the feisty Sister Andrea, will return as a series regular. Martin, a veteran of the stage and screen, won two Primetime Emmy Awards as a writer on “Second City Television” and also has two Tony Awards.

In the season two finale “C is for Cannibal,” fans finally saw David (Mike Colter) ordained as a priest and (at long last) share a kiss with Kristen (Katja Herbers). Many questions remain for fans in the coming season. Can Ben (Aasif Mandvi) and Vanessa (Nicole Shalhoub) rid themselves of Maggie’s spirit? How will Kristen handle Leland (Michael Emerson)? Speaking of Leland, what exactly is he planning? And is Sheryl (Christine Lahti) part of it? And what about Lexis (Maddy Crocco)? Find out next week when “Evil” returns.

Hulu’s “Fire Island” Garnering Rave Reviews

If you can’t physically get away this summer, travel to “Fire Island” with Joel Kim Booster, Bowen Yang, and Margaret Cho. For those unfamiliar with New York geography, Fire Island is a popular vacation destination for members of the LGBTQ community.

Tomorrow, Hulu will release the romantic comedy about a group of gay friends who take a trip to Fire Island, where they party and mingle with wealthier vacationers. Booster, who also wrote the screenplay, found inspiration in Jane Austen’s “Pride and Prejudice.” Critics are describing the film as “funny,” “saucy,” and “fresh” and “a delightful addition” to the list of Jane Austen film adaptations. The cast and crew filmed several key scenes at our Foster Avenue facility, and we cannot wait to see the final product.

CBS Renews “FBI” and “FBI: Most Wanted” for Two New Seasons

Broadway Stages is so proud of our long-standing connection to Dick Wolf and his popular “Law & Order” and “FBI” franchises. We are happy to report that both “FBI” and its spinoff “FBI: Most Wanted” are coming back for at least two more seasons each. The iconic “Law & Order” and its spinoff “Law & Order: Organized Crime,” both filmed at our Brooklyn stages, will also return. All four series are produced by Wolf Entertainment.

CBS planned to air the fourth season finale of “FBI” last week but pulled the episode in response to recent tragic events. No word yet on when (or if) it will air. “FBI: Most Wanted” just finished up its third season, during which Dylan McDermott replaced Julian McMahon as team leader. The show centers on the FBI’s Fugitive Task Force, a small team designed to track and capture notorious fugitives on the Most Wanted List. This past season we were excited to see our Staten Island campus at the former Arthur Kill Correctional facility featured on an episode called “El Pincho.”

The latest “FBI” spinoff, “FBI: International,” just finished its first season and will return for at least two more as well. We are thrilled that all of Dick Wolf’s series have been renewed, and we look forward to future collaborations with cast and crew members.

CBS Greenlights “East New York”

As we reported in April, CBS recently filmed a pilot called “East New York” at our facilities. We are proud to report that the network has picked up the show for a full first season.

Amanda Warren (“The Leftovers”) will star as Regina Haywood, the recently promoted commanding officer of New York’s 74th Precinct. She leads a diverse group of officers and detectives in serving and protecting a poverty-stricken Brooklyn neighborhood that is experiencing social upheaval as it enters the early stages of gentrification. Emmy winner Jimmy Smits, who famously spent many seasons playing law enforcement characters on “NYPD Blue” and “L.A. Law,” will co-star as Chief John Suarez.

Joining Smits and Warren is Ruben Santiago-Hudson (“Castle”) as officer Marvin Sandeford and Richard Kind (“Mad About You”) as Captain Stan Yenko. Olivia Luccardi (“The Deuce”) will play patrol officer Brandy Quinlan, and newcomer Lavel Schley will co-star as trainee Andre Bentley. Additional cast members include Elizabeth Rodriguez (“Shameless” and “Orange Is the New Black”) as detective Crystal Morales and Kevin Rankin (“The Umbrella Academy”) as detective Tommy Killian.

Congratulations to the cast and crew! We cannot wait to see all of their hard work pay off when the show premieres. Be sure to follow our blogs and sign up for our newsletter to stay informed of updates.
