NOoSPHERE Arts Kicks Off WE ARE NATURE 2022

Broadway Stages is excited to announce that the summer performance series WE ARE NATURE 2022 (WAN), presented by NOoSPHERE Arts, continues! The WAN series celebrates and explores our ecosphere through live arts, applied arts, and evidence-based knowledge. NOoSPHERE Arts is a partner in the coalition behind Kingsland Wildflowers at Broadway Stages, and the founder and executive director, Sol Kjøk, serves as its arts producer and presenter.

Now in its third year, WAN will again take place at and around Kingsland Wildflowers where artists will create new, site-specific works for our one-of-a-kind urban wildlife arena. WAN combines arts, environmental activism, and community building. The live art pieces will be punctuated by readings both virtual and in-person. WAN aims to inspire a sense of agency and hope through the message: We already have solutions we know will work!

Running from May 28 through Sep 24, the WAN season will consist of 5 events.

● May 28, WAN 1 | Water Is Life

● June 25, WAN 2 | Nature’s Cycles

● Jul 23, WAN 3 | Wildflower Festival

● Aug 27, WAN 4 | Breakdown, Breakthrough

● Sep 24, WAN 5 | Earth Ethics: Climate Week

The first event in the series will be Water Is Life on May 28 from 6:30 to 9 pm. The evening will begin with a musical prelude by American songwriter, music producer, violinist, and performance artist, Katy Gunn. She incorporates choreography with music and audience interaction. Her work emphasizes themes related to human connection and female identity. Her most recent release, Whispering Voices, seeks to evoke our interconnectedness as human beings, tapping into the elusive source that binds us all.

Following the musical prelude, the Thunderbirds Native-American Dancers will perform the opening dance ceremony. The Thunderbird American Indian Dancers, NY’s oldest Native American Dance Company, have pledged to help preserve and perpetuate the culture and traditions of the American Indian people through their songs and dances. They have performed at the Lincoln Center, Museum of Natural History, and The National Museum of the American Indian, among others.

After the opening ceremonies, Dr. Fritjof Capra will introduce the audience to the WAN 1, Water Is Life. Dr. Capra, the author of the bestselling classic The Tao of Physics and coauthor of The Systems View of Life, serves on the faculty of the Amana-Key executive education program in São Paulo, Brazil, and is a Fellow of Schumacher College, an international center for ecological studies in the UK. He also serves on the Council of the Earth Charter Initiative and is a founding director of the Berkeley-based Center for Ecoliteracy. NOoSPHERE Arts collaborated with Dr. Capra to select the five crucial topics for the 2022 WE ARE NATURE series from his collection of essays, Patterns of Connection (2021).

Next, NVA & Guests will provide the central performance as curated by CreateART, an artist-led multidisciplinary performance and residency platform. Founded in 2014, NVA & Guests share the work of choreographer Nicole von Arx. Its mission is to forge genuine connections between audiences and performers by creating interdisciplinary stage and film works. In addition, the company is committed to providing opportunities for the exchange of emotions and ideas across cultures.

The evening will conclude with a musical postlude by Katy Gunn. Please join us for an amazing evening of entertainment, artistry and environmental awareness. RESERVE YOUR SPOT HERE!
