Inside Broadway Stages | What's Filming

Spring is finally here, commonly known as a time of renewal and growth. Fortunately, we are seeing the same for the film and TV industry. While still recovering from the impact of COVID-19, we are proud to be the studio production partner-of-choice for both established and new projects filming at our facilities across the city. We welcome the cast, crew and vendors who work tirelessly to put a production together, and we thank them for their continued passion and commitment to the industry. Read about some of the new upcoming productions that call Broadway Stages home.

“Blank Slate” (NBC)

From Davis Entertainment, the production company that brought film lovers the “Predator” franchise and television viewers “The Blacklist,” comes the pilot for a new police drama called “Blank Slate.”

Matt Passmore (Netflix’s “13 Reasons Why”) stars as Special Agent Alexander McCoy, a law enforcement officer that only exists as an urban legend. Yet, one day a man claiming to be McCoy and possessing his skills strolls into town. Floriana Lima (ABC’s “A Million Little Things”) co-stars as Maya Logan, the experienced leader of a Homeland Security team. Dave Annable (ABC’s “Brothers & Sisters”) plays her husband, aspiring politician Chris Logan.

Viewers may recognize Passmore as the star of A&E’s crime drama series “The Glades,” which ran from 2010 to 2013. Lima notably played detective Maggie Sawyer, one of the first openly gay characters in the DC Universe, in seasons two and three of the CW’s “Supergirl.”

In the director’s chair is Emmy winner Richard Shepard, who directed pilots for “Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist” “Criminal Minds,” and “Ugly Betty.” We hope his new pilot follows the success of his previous projects that went on to become popular series.

“The Missing” (Peacock)

Peacock has given the greenlight for a new series from David E. Kelley (ABC’s “The Practice”) based on Dror Mishani’s best-selling crime novel “The Missing File.” Kelley is writing the eight-episode series and will also serve as showrunner and executive producer. Oscar-winning director Barry Levinson (“Rain Man”) will direct multiple episodes and co-executive produce as well. Levinson recently co-executive produced and directed the first two episodes of Hulu’s acclaimed miniseries “Dopesick.”

Jeff Wilbusch (Netflix’s “Unorthodox”) stars as Detective Avraham Avraham, a deeply spiritual and religious man who questions his own humanity when a seemingly routine investigation turns upside down. Juliana Canfield (HBO”s “Succession”) co-stars as Janine Harris, a young NYPD detective. They are joined by Karen Robinson (CBC’s “Schitt’s Creek”) as Captain Helen Davies and Michael Mosley (USA’s “The Sinner”) as Detective Earl Malzone.

“The Missing File,” first published in Israel in 2011, was previously adapted as the 2018 French film “Fleuve Noir” (“Black Tide”) starring Vincent Cassel (“Ocean’s Twelve”). We are excited to help bring this story to American television viewers.

“East New York” (CBS)

Emmy winner Jimmy Smits is no stranger to playing law enforcement figures, and he will be back in his element in CBS’s upcoming pilot “East New York.” Television viewers know Smits as Bobby Simone from ABC’s “NYPD Blue” and Victor Sifuentes from NBC’s “L.A. Law.”

Smits will reunite with “L.A. Law” and “NYPD Blue” writer/producer William Finkelstein and director/producer Michael M. Robin. Mike Flynn (ABC’s “Big Sky”) will join the team as Finkelstein’s co-writer while Robin will direct.

Amanda Warren (HBO’s “The Leftovers'“) stars as Deputy Inspector of East New York Regina Haywood. Her team serves and protects a poverty-stricken Brooklyn neighborhood that is experiencing social upheaval as it enters the early stages of gentrification. Smits will play Chief John Suarez.

Joining Smits and Warren is Ruben Santiago Hudson (ABC’s “Castle”) as street-smart officer Marvin Sandeford. Richard Kind (NBC’s “Mad About You”) will play Captain Stan Yenko, and Olivia Luccardi (HBO’s “The Deuce”) and relative newcomer Lavel Schley will play patrol officer Brandy Quinlan and trainee Andre Bentley, respectively.

Blue’s Big City Adventure” (Paramount+)

On November 18, the adventure begins! The new live-action “Blue’s Clues” movie will unite all three hosts of the long-running children’s television series: Steve (Steve Burns), who hosted from 1998 to 2002; Joe (Donovan Patton), who appeared on the show from 2002 to 2006; and Josh (Josh Dela Cruz) from the 2019 revival series “Blue’s Clues & You!”

“Blue’s Clues,” which premiered on Nick Jr. in 1996, follows the puppy Blue as she and her human co-star solve puzzles and answer questions using clues. In the new film, Josh and Blue seek help from Steve and Joe as they try to audition for a Broadway musical. Mark your calendars now: the film will drop on Paramount+ on November 18. We will share more information as the date gets closer.
