Broadway Stages – Taking Inventory
Milestones have a way of causing us to reflect and take inventory. Have we accomplished what we set out to achieve? Have our values remained steadfast? Have we made a difference? Are we on the right track?
Broadway Stages was founded almost 40 years ago by Tony Argento, an Italian immigrant who broke into the studio production industry when he converted a dilapidated movie theatre on Broadway in Astoria, Queens, into his first soundstage. Numerous commercials and music videos were filmed at this namesake location, the success of which allowed Broadway Stages to expand to Brooklyn, and Staten Island. Since the beginning, the company has been steeped in principled tradition and a community focus, which today remains at the core of our business philosophy and the catalyst to make a lasting, positive local impact.
Meeting the growing demands of the film and television industry while also helping to generate economic value for our local communities has been among our top priorities. Our investments in capital improvements, and rehabilitation of properties have brought economic renewal…development to the communities where we have operations, and allowed us to expand our footprint. Today, we are one of the largest growing film and television studio production companies in New York. A certified woman owned business by the city of New York Minority and Women Owned Business Enterprises (M/WBE), Tony and his sister Gina Argento, the President and CEO of Broadway Stages, manage over three million square feet of integrated space with 60 soundstages, unique locations, production services, and over seven acres of parking throughout Brooklyn, Queens, and Staten Island. Together with their clients, they have employed thousands, and created innumerable jobs.
As one of the premier film and television studio production companies in New York, Broadway Stages is proud to be a part of the economic growth that the industry brings to the state and local economy, and we do our part to generate a skilled and experienced workforce. We have developed an industry resource guide and feature an industry-jobs blog series to peak interest and advance careers in the film and television business. We also support organizations that provide media arts education to youth.
We remain committed to empower, promote, and celebrate the experiences, talents, cultures, and diversity within the industry, across our operations, and the city. Dedicated to giving back, we actively support initiatives that benefit the community. Through financial, in-kind, and volunteer resources, we strive to make a difference by supporting initiatives that bring equity, inclusion, and well-being across the city, including youth development, education, the arts, sustainability, housing, food distribution, public healthcare, and more.
Our commitment to renewable energy and environmental sustainability can be seen across the rooftops of our facilities in Brooklyn. As an early adopter and supporter of green roofs, Broadway has invested in more than 100,000 square feet of green infrastructure including 50,000 square feet of solar arrays, more than 50,000 square feet of wildflower and agricultural gardens, and related educational programs that provide mutual value to our operations, community, and natural habitat. Our green rooftops also serve to champion the coexistence of nature and the arts with productions designed to “harness the power of art to drive action around sustainability, migration and diversity.” Together with our environmental and arts partners we are providing ecosystem and cultural services that are critical to our habitat.
At Broadway Stages, we remain dedicated to continuing our path forward. To provide experience, service, and commitment to our industry, our community, and our environment. We are proud to be a studio production partner-of-choice, offering an array of facilities and services to our clients and serving as home base for productions that call Broadway Stages home. We invite you to take a look at our full list of credits and enjoy this reel that captures the productions that have filmed at our Arthur Kill facility located at our Staten Island Campus.
