Welcome to Broadway Stages’ Spotlight, where we feature local shops, restaurants, organizations, individuals, and venues. In the month of November, we express our gratitude to those who help make our city great. This week we recognize the staff and volunteers at the Pride Center of Staten Island.

It’s easy to feel adrift in an ocean of people in a city like New York. But if you take the time, you will find that this vast ocean is full of islands of people like you and me, and we are far from alone. These islands are populated with a variety of communities ready to welcome you, like the one at the Pride Center of Staten Island.

Located at 66 Willow Avenue on Staten Island, the Pride Center provides a brave space for LGBTQ+ people, their allies, and all those of Staten Island that are willing to make space for diversity. They offer programs for young adults through seniors. Their services include physical and behavioral health, trans and gender expansive support services, legal assistance, and more. Executive Director Carol Bullock said, “I love the sense of community. I have been so fortunate to have met so many amazing humans, many of whom are working every day to make Staten Island a more accepting, safer, and better place. I know that if I need anything, there are so many individuals who would jump in immediately to help.”
