Sol Kjøk: Broadway Stages’ Artist-in-Residence
Readers of our blog will be familiar with Sol Kjøk, Broadway Stages’ Artist-in-Residence and a key partner in our commitment to promoting the arts, nature and artists across NYC and beyond. In recognition of National Arts & Humanities month we take a moment to shine the light on Kjøk including information about some of her more recent exhibitions.
For more than a decade, Kjøk has been working out of her studio, Last Frontier NYC, located in Broadway Stages’ facility at 520 Kingsland Avenue. Her work has been shown around the world and was recently featured in the exhibition “Norwegians in New York” at Scandinavian House Gallery (September 2022). She was also featured in National Geographic Traveller magazine’s piece on Greenpoint (Jan/Feb 2020). Although visits to Last Frontier NYC are by appointment only, you can see examples of Kjøk’s drawings and paintings on her website.
Kjøk is not only an artist in her own right, but also, she works to promote other artists and bring international multidisciplinary arts programming to the public though NOoSPHERE Arts, a nonprofit organization that she founded. Recent NOoSPHERE exhibits include the “WE ARE NATURE” performance series. Check NOoSPHERE’s website for upcoming events. She is also the founder of Mothership NYC, a Greenpoint-based combined live-work space and presentation arena for international artists that hosts exhibits, performances, and artist salons. Visit the Mothership NYC website for events and information.
We invite you to learn more about Kjøk’s fascinating background and prolific career on our Celebrating the Arts blog post. Peruse her media coverage, and watch an interview with Kjøk here.
We also take this opportunity to say thank you to Sol for her vision, for her dedication and commitment to the arts, nature, and community — for her inspiration, and for sharing her talents with us, our city and the world.
