Your Favorite TV Vampires | Just in Time for Halloween!
Over the last month, fresh blood has joined the pantheon of vampire lure on television. Since it’s Halloween season, we invite you to get to know some vampires currently on the air including a vampire child in Showtime's popular remake of "Let the Right One In" that is filmed at our facilities. We hope you enjoy!
\Nandor, Nadja, Laszlo, and Colin Robinson ("What We Do in the Shadows")
FX's "What We Do in the Shadows" just finished up its hilarious fourth season and will return for at least two more. The mockumentary-style comedy centers around four vampires who share a dilapidated home in Staten Island. The show is based on the 2014 film of the same name but differentiates itself with the addition of energy vampires who feed off the boredom and frustration of those around them. Last season ended on a cliffhanger, as Nandor's longtime familiar Guillermo abandoned the foursome in the hopes of fulfilling his dream of becoming a vampire too.
The Students of St. Vladimir's Academy ("Vampire Academy")
"Vampire Academy" is the second adaptation of Richelle Mead's popular young adult novels of the same name. The fantasy horror show premiered last month on Peacock and features an ensemble cast playing Moroi vampires and Dhampir guardians-in-training at an elite boarding school. The show centers on Rose Hathaway, a Dhampir training to defend her best friend Lissa Dragomir, a Moroi princess, amid a power struggle between the kind Moroi vampires and the dangerous Strigoi.
Lestat, Louis, and Claudia ("Interview With the Vampire")
AMC recently rebooted Anne Rice's "Vampire Chronicles" book series as the television drama "Interview With the Vampire," and the critically acclaimed show has already been renewed for a second season. The series centers on 18th century vampire antihero Lestat de Lioncourt, his protégé and lover Louis de Pointe du Lac, and child vampire Claudia. Unlike the 1994 film adaptation, the television series does not shy away from the homosexual themes of the original 1976 novel. The series differs from both the film and novel by reimagining Louis as a black man in the Jim Crow South, rather than as a 19th-century white plantation owner.
Reginald Andres ("Reginald the Vampire")
SyFy recently adapted Johnny B. Truant's book series "Fat Vampire" into the satirical dramedy "Reginald the Vampire." In a world full of beautiful and buff vampires, Reginald is a socially awkward fast-food worker struggling to adapt after his transformation. While searching for love and fulfillment in his life, he instead finds himself in the middle of a deadly vampire feud.
Ellie Kane ("Let the Right One In")
Broadway Stages is thrilled to be the production partner-of-choice for Showtime's adaptation of John Ajvide Lindqvist's popular 2004 novel "Let the Right One In." The novel follows the relationship between a bullied 12-year-old boy and a vampire child in suburban Stockholm in the early 1980s. In the new series, the action takes place in modern-day New York and centers on single father Mark who is trying to keep his vampire daughter Ellie alive. This is the third adaptation of Linqvist's novel, following 2008's Swedish film version and 2010's English-language adaptation "Let Me In."
