October is National Arts & Humanities Month (NAHM). Join Broadway Stages as we proudly support the arts in our community through financial, in-kind, and volunteer resources, promoting the inclusion of experiences, talents, and cultures that enrich all our lives. Americans for the Arts established NAHM as a weekly celebration more than 30 years ago to commemorate the twentieth anniversary of the National Endowment for the Arts. In 1993, it became a month-long event that highlights the importance of culture in our nation. Through NAHM, Americans for the Arts and national arts partners aim to focus “on equitable access to the arts at local, state, and national levels;” to encourage “individuals, organizations, and diverse communities to participate in the arts;” allow “governments and businesses to show their support of the arts;” and to raise “public awareness about the role the arts and humanities play in our communities and lives.”

How you can get involved

On October 15, Americans for the Arts will hold their Arts + Business Partnership Awards, an online gala that will “recognize businesses of all sizes from around the country for exceptional mutually beneficial, innovative, and sustained collaborations with the arts.“ This year’s honorees include: Audible, NMG Network, Underestimated People of Purpose (UPOP), Universal Orlando Resort, University of Michigan Credit Union (UMCU), Vestar, and more (find details and ticket information here).

Looking for arts events and activities in the NYC area? Go to the NYC Parks website and click on “Events” for arts-related classes, workshops, and events such as concerts, theatre, dance, arts and crafts, and more. Also check out their NYC Public Art Map and Guide to find public displays of permanent and temporary art installations around NYC. In addition to getting out and experiencing the arts for yourself, the NAHM Resources page provides various ideas and resources to help you celebrate the arts in October, including advocating for the National Endowment for the Arts, supporting temporarily closed museums and venues through donations or gift card purchases, and spreading the message through social media platforms. And of course, be sure to check out events at NOoSPHERE Arts, founded by our very own resident artist, Sol Kjøk.

Get your art on during October; you’ll be glad you did! #ShowYourArt2021
