"New Amsterdam" Returns to NBC on Tuesday, Sept. 21

Last season, NBC medical drama “New Amsterdam” tackled the COVID-19 pandemic head on. Dr. Max Goodwin (Ryan Eggold) and his staff faced a massive influx of patients, supply shortages, and other pandemic-related hardships on top of the day-to-day struggles inherent in working at one of the country’s oldest public hospitals. When the show returns this evening, Tuesday, September 21, fans can expect the series to continue where it left off, with characters finding love in the time of COVID.

At the end of season three, Max finally took off his wedding ring and kissed Dr. Helen Sharpe (Freema Agyeman). Dr. Lauren Bloom (Janet Montgomery) got her girlfriend Leyla (Shiva Kalaiselvan) a residency spot at New Amsterdam, but may have risked her own career and reputation in doing so. And Dr. Floyd Reynolds (Jocko Sims) fell for Dr. Lyn Malvo (Frances Turner), who is in an open marriage with Dr. Claude Baptiste (Andre Blake) – an awkward situation, as Dr. Baptiste just offered Dr. Reynolds a promotion.

Inspired by Dr. Eric Manheimer’s memoir “Twelve Patients: Life and Death at Bellevue Hospital,” “New Amsterdam” centers on a medical director seeking to improve patient care by cutting through the red tape that often stands in his way. “New Amsterdam” has been filmed at our Brooklyn-based facilities for all of its four seasons, and we cannot wait to see what is in store in the upcoming season.
