Halston" Arriving Fashionably Late to Netflix on May 14

It is no secret that the pandemic pushed back the release dates of hundreds of film and television productions over the past year. Thankfully, we are seeing more and more signs of recovery as brand new films and television programs are finally arriving and Broadway Stages is proud to be a part of it all.

Throughout the pandemic, Netflix found great success entertaining audiences with its hit miniseries "Tiger King" and "The Queen's Gambit." We hope that its latest production, "Halston," continues that trend. Production shut down in 2020, but the team was able to regroup and finish filming at our soundstages in time for a May 2021 release.

Scottish actor Ewan McGregor will star in and executive produce the miniseries based on the book "Simply Halston" by Steven Gaines. "Halston" will tell the story of legendary fashion designer to the stars Roy Halston Frowic, known by all as simply Halston. The American icon rose to fame after designing a pillbox hat for Jackie Kennedy to wear at her husband's inauguration in 1961. His namesake brand took the world by storm in the '70s and '80s, but he personally suffered challenges and setbacks before dying of AIDS in 1990 at the age of 57.

Ryan Murphy, creator of "American Horror Story" and many other hit shows, is also executive producing. Dan Minahan, who worked with Murphy on "Ratched" and "Hollywood," will be directing. Minahan also directed several episodes of HBO's wildly popular "Game of Thrones."

Netflix recently released Polaroid photos of McGregor and his castmates in their finest '70s threads. Co-stars include Rory Culkin of HBO's "Succession" fame, who plays the late film director Joel Schumacher, and Krysta Rodriguez of NBC's "Smash," who appears as Liza Minnelli.

We congratulate the cast and crew’s determination and dedication to complete production despite lengthy delays, and we cannot wait to see how everything comes together. Be sure to check out "Halston" when it lands on Netflix on Friday, May 14.
