Congratulations Golden Globe Award Winners
This year’s Golden Globes award ceremony was a truly unique event. In a demonstration of extreme social distancing, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler handled hosting duties thousands of miles away from each other, with Fey in New York and Poehler in Los Angeles. Additionally, winners accepted their awards from afar, some dressed to the nines and others in loungewear.
Netflix was the big winner, with “The Crown” and “The Queen’s Gambit” sweeping in their respective categories. “The Crown” won best television drama, best actress, best actor, and best supporting actress, with its only losses coming with Olivia Colman and Helena Bonham Carter losing to their castmates Emma Corrin and Gillian Anderson in the best actress and best supporting actress categories respectively. “The Queen’s Gambit” won best limited series, anthology series, or motion picture made for television, and its lead actress Anya Taylor-Joy won best actress in a limited series, anthology series, or motion picture made for television.
Additional winners included “Schitt’s Creek” for best television musical or comedy, and its star Catherine O’Hara for best actress in that genre. Jason Sudeikis (“Ted Lasso”) made a fashion statement when he accepted his award for best actor in a television musical or comedy in a tie- dye hoodie.

In the motion picture categories, Chadwick Boseman posthumously won best actor in a motion picture drama for “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom” and his widow Taylor Simone Ledward gave the most heartbreaking acceptance speech of the night.

Sacha Baron Cohen won best actor in a motion picture musical or comedy, as his film “Borat Subsequent Moviefilm” took home the prize for best motion picture musical or comedy. Rosamund Pike won best actress in a musical or comedy for “I Care a Lot,” while Andra Day won best actress in a drama for her performance as Billie Holiday in “The United States Vs. Billie Holiday.”

Daniel Kaluuya (“Judas and the Black Messiah”) won in the supporting actor category for his portrayal of Fred Hampton, Chairman of the Illinois Black Panther Party. Jodie Foster (“The Mauritanian”) accepted her award for best supporting actress while sitting on the couch in her pajamas, next to her pajama-clad wife and their dog, who was wearing a matching bandana.

The big winner of the night was “Nomadland,” which won best motion picture drama. Its director, Chloé Zhao, became only the second woman to win best director, the first in nearly four decades. Quite apropos as we recognize Women’s History Month.

Jane Fonda appeared in person to accept the Cecil B. DeMille award, and her speech on inclusivity and diversity stole the show. Another nod to women in the industry who are using their voice to change the world.
