"The Flight Attendant" Nabs Two Golden Globe Nominations
Awards season is one of our favorite times of the year and it’s even more exciting when productions filmed at our studios are nominated. And that’s what’s been happening to HBO Max’s hugely successful dark comedy series “The Flight Attendant.”
We previously announced that it received several nominations at the Critics’ Choice Awards, and now it can add two Golden Globe nods to its list of accolades. The dark comedy will compete against frontrunner “Schitt’s Creek” for Best TV Series, Musical, or Comedy, and star Kaley Cuoco will take on frontrunner Catherine O’Hara for Best Actress in a TV Series, Musical, or Comedy.
Based on the novel of the same name by Chris Bohjalian, “The Flight Attendant” stars Cuoco as alcoholic flight attendant Cassie Bowden. Following a night of heavy drinking with a male passenger in Bangkok, Cassie finds herself embroiled in a murder mystery when she wakes up in a hotel room next to the passenger’s dead body. The series has proven to be so popular that the streaming service has already announced a second season is in the works. Read this Deadline article to hear what Cuoco has to say about the nominations and what we might expect in season two!
Netflix garnered the most Golden Globe nominations this year with 42 split almost evenly in the film and television categories (22 nods in film, 20 in television). Netflix’s original film “Mank,” about screenwriter Herman Mankiewicz who co-wrote “Citizen Kane,” led all films with six nominations. The network’s “The Crown” led all television series with six nods as well. “Schitt’s Creek” famously swept the Emmys last fall, but we are hoping that “The Flight Attendant” gets some love from the Hollywood Foreign Press Association when Tina Fey and Amy Poehler host the 78th Annual Golden Globes on Sunday, February 28. Be sure to mark your calendar and join us in rooting for “The Flight Attendant.” And of course, we offer our most sincere congratulations to all nominees! We are incredibly proud to be a part of the TV and film industry, and a studio production partner-of-choice.
