Not only have new First Dogs Champ and Major Biden provided some welcomed relief from the heavy news cycle in the past few months, but also they have brought added attention to shelter and rescue animals (Major, a German Shepard, was adopted by the Biden’s from the Delaware Humane Society). You have also most likely heard reports about the increase in animal adoptions during the COVID-19 pandemic. It appears we are seeking ‘furry’ companionship as we all stick close to home. In a recent NPR interview with Psychiatrist Gregory Brown, spokesperson for the American Psychiatric Association, he said that having a furry friend around is improving the lives of many and helping them through this trying time. It got us thinking that we could help by playing the role of ‘matchmaker’ and generating awareness about local organizations that help animals find their “furever” homes.
