Charity Spotlight | Actionplay

Broadway Stages proudly spotlights local organizations that seek to promote the inclusion of experiences, talents, and culture in our community while helping individuals reach their true potential. This week’s Charity Spotlight shines on one organization that is accomplishing these goals through an arts-focused platform, engaging individuals to learn life skills, gain confidence, and have fun! Meet Actionplay, an NYC-based 501(c)(3) led by Executive Director and Founder Aaron Feinstein. Actionplay’s mission is to provide individuals of all ages who are “on the autism spectrum and have related conditions, equal access to education, arts, and culture” through a variety of programs. They are “dedicated to improving the lives of individuals on the autism spectrum, their families, and the community at large.”

Actionplay’s programs include their signature Action-Improv Musical Series (AIMS), an improvisational music and theatre residency for teens and adults that develops confidence and increases communication and social skills; and The Actionplay Chorus, which enables young performers to present original music. The Chorus has performed with such notable musicians as Weird Al Yankovic and the Greenwich Village Orchestra and graced the stage at notable venues, including the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts and the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music. In addition, Actionplay offers workshops focused on Self-Advocacy and Auditions, and a Mentor program.

The organization also offers a valuable resource to parents, educators, and arts and culture professionals through training and professional development workshops that will help these individuals as they interact with children and adults on the autism spectrum and with related conditions. We encourage you to consider supporting Actionplay’s mission through a financial donation, or through their volunteer opportunities.
