Soundstages Converted into Food Bank in East Brooklyn

Since our city was required to shut-down due to the impact of COVID-19, our community has come together to help those in need.  Organizations, individuals and businesses have come to the front line to help ensure that our neighbors are being cared for, and our community leaders have been working to facilitate the delivery of much needed services and supplies.  Recently, State Senator Roxanne Persaud introduced Broadway Stages to Dr. Melony Samuels, the Executive Director and Founder of The Campaign Against Hunger, which is one of the most trusted anti-hunger nonprofits working to end hunger and build health in our City.  Since the start of the COVID-19 shutdown, The Campaign Against Hunger has served almost 1 million meals reaching upwards of 7,000 families a week – a number that will soon exceed 10,000 families a week.

When Broadway Stages heard about the amazing work of Dr. Samuels, we opened up our Foster Avenue facility in Canarsie to serve as a food collection and distribution warehouse. Last week we welcomed Senator Persaud and Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams to visit our Foster Avenue facility to see the good work of Dr. Samuels in action. It has been an honor and a privilege to continue our community outreach with Senator Persaud and to work with Dr. Samuels to facilitate the food collection and distribution.  At Broadway Stages our commitment to community has always been an integral part of our business. Today, more than ever, that commitment is critical to help ensure our neighbors who need help are receiving it. We are proud to be part of an industry that’s making a positive impact and proud to partner with our elected officials and non-profit organizations that are helping thousands in need.
