Read Across America Day | March 2
March 2 is Read Across America Day, a special day when the nation celebrates reading. Corresponding with the birthday of Dr. Seuss (Theodor Seuss Geisel), the day is part of the year-round Read Across America initiative that the National Education Association started in 1998 to encourage reading among children and young adults. The organization continues to evolve the program to connect with the lives of young readers, re-branding it in 2019 with “a new focus on books that tell children of color or of different gender identities that they belong in the world and the world belongs to them.”
The event helps kick off National Reading Month in March. The National Education Association has a many ideas to help you promote reading in your community on March 2 and throughout the year, from book tastings, scavenger hunts, reading gardens, and more. See the Read Across America Calendar for recommended books, authors, and teaching resources that reflect various experiences and cultures.
At Broadway Stages we are committed to supporting education at all levels. As the foundation of education, reading opens up a world of knowledge and adventure. Make reading a part of your daily life and open your mind to a life of learning.
