Celebrating Women’s History Month
March is Women’s History Month, a time to celebrate the achievements and contributions women have made to the United States and the world. As we approach the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which granted women the right to vote, Broadway Stages reflects on the continued efforts for gender equality in the TV and film industry. We are encouraged by recent strides, such as the Television Diversity Tax Credit Bill New York Governor Andrew Cuomo signed into law in December 2019. The legislation will enable a study of the hiring of TV writers and directors in New York who are women and people of color. Further, the bill will provide $5 million from the Empire State Film Production Tax Credit that will motivate hiring of women and people of color to write and direct television in New York.
As a woman-owned business, Broadway Stages is proud to support women in the industry throughout the year as a member of New York Women in Television and Film. We encourage you to read about women film pioneers and invite you to join us in acknowledging the many ways women impact our lives, from home and family, to education, the workplace, and beyond. And on March 8, celebrate International Women’s Day. #IWD2020 #EachforEqual
