Congratulations to Ava DuVernay and the cast and crew of Netflix's "When They See Us," which won the Critics' Choice Award for Best Limited Series. The show's creators spent weeks filming inside the former Arthur Kill Correctional Facility, Broadway Stages' campus in Charleston on the Island's south shore. The authentic prison setting helped the cast members get into character, as they played the Central Park Five, a group of young men who spent decades behind bars for a crime they did not commit. Jharrel Jerome, who several months ago won an Emmy for his role as wrongly convicted Korey Wise, also won the Critics' Choice Award last night for Best Actor in a Limited Series or Movie Made for Television. We could not be more proud that our sound stage played an integral part in such a powerful, important production. Congratulations to all the nominees and winners!
