Watch the Emmys Tonight - We’re Rooting for Shows Filmed at our Studios!
Broadway Stages is thrilled that several shows filmed at our locations are up for major awards at the 71st Primetime Emmy Awards airing tonight on Fox. And we are especially proud that these shows tackle important, relevant issues that are meaningful and impactful.
The second season of FX's groundbreaking drama "Pose" wrapped up recently, and the series has a chance of winning two major awards tonight. "Pose" explores the New York City ballroom culture of the late '80s and early '90s and features five transgender actresses of color in its main cast. The season finale included scenes filmed at our Staten Island location earlier this year. We are hoping that Billy Porter takes home the award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series, and we are also excited to see if the show can beat frontrunner "Game of Thrones" for Outstanding Drama Series. Best of luck to the cast and creators!
"When They See Us," Ava DuVernay's acclaimed four-part miniseries about the Central Park Five, will compete for Outstanding Limited Series and several other major awards tonight. The show already won an early award for Outstanding Casting for a Limited Series, Movie, or Special, and has a shot at winning many more tonight.
The show's creators spent weeks filming inside Staten Island's shuttered Arthur Kill Correctional Facility. The authentic prison setting helped the actors get into character, letting them experience what it must have felt like inside the prison cells where five young men spent years behind bars for a crime they did not commit.
Eight different stars of the Netflix miniseries are up for awards tonight, including Jharrel Jerome for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited Series or Movie and Aunjanue Ellis and Niecy Nash, who will compete against each other for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series or Movie. Asante Blackk, Marsha Stephanie Blake, Vera Farmiga, John Leguizamo, and Michael K. Williams are nominated in supporting roles. DuVernay is also in the running in the Directing and Writing categories for a Limited Series, Movie, or Dramatic Special.
Competing against "When They See Us" in many categories is another limited series that spent several weeks filming in our Staten Island location. Directed by Ben Stiller, "Escape at Dannemora" is a seven-episode series that aired on Showtime late last year. It is a prison break drama based on an escape at New York's Clinton Correctional Facility in 2015.
"Escape at Dannemora" is competing for Outstanding Limited Series as well as Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited Series or Movie for Benicio Del Toro and Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series or Movie for Patricia Arquette. Paul Dano is up for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited Series or Movie, a category that includes three stars of "When They See Us," meaning that four of the six nominees in that category are Broadway Stages clients. The two series will also compete against each in the Directing and Writing categories for a Limited Series, Movie, or Dramatic Special category.
We could not be more proud to be associated with these critically acclaimed programs. Best of luck to all nominees, and tune in tonight to see who wins. Follow us on Facebook to keep up with the latest news on Broadway Stages.
