Business Spotlight | Mario’s Meats and Gourmet Deli
Welcome to Broadway Stages’ Business Spotlight, where we talk about the many local companies that we and our clients love to work with. This month we’re spotlighting Mario’s Meats and Gourmet Deli in Glendale, Queens.
As a TV and film production studio, Broadway Stages (BWS) has a never-ending need to feed its staff and production crews. To that end, we enjoy exploring the many local food establishments in our community to make sure our folks have delicious food to eat. As a proud resident of the area for more than 35 years, BWS enjoys building relationships with these local businesses, whether newcomers just starting out, or those with deeper, longstanding roots. Most recently we have had the pleasure of enjoying catering from a well-established business, Mario’s Meats and Gourmet Deli. In addition to getting an opportunity to eat a selection of their delicious food, Broadway Stages was excited to get to know Mario’s better because we heard about their excellent reputation and knew we shared the same values as local, family-run businesses with decades of experience and a community focus.
Mario’s opened in 1982, founded by Mario DiGangi, who was originally from Sicily. When Mario passed away in 2011, his son Joe took over the business. DiGangi says, “We still have that ‘hometown’ feel when people come into the shop…They know us, they know the family. Good conversation, good food….” Customers receive a level of service and attention to detail that they just can’t get in a chain supermarket or restaurant. “We still hand pick everything that we get in. Big pieces, half a cow, the whole cow, we break it all down here…people have come to expect the best from us…smoked meats, old school sausage, we keep it traditional, nothing’s changed,” says DiGangi.
Whether you are looking for a sandwich, a full-service butcher or catering, check out Mario’s for yourself or for a gift. You can find them at 7553 Metropolitan Avenue, Middle Village, NY 11379; phone (718) 326-7973.
